The Kids Are Alright: Northeastern Middle Class Families choosing Southern colleges

Good post from a Northeastern prep school teacher.
Synopsis: Kids arent turning down Ivies quite yet, but those who don't get in are choosing SEC schools. In five years, you may see SEC schools being chosen over Ivies. Normalcy is becoming very attractive.

I'm betting a lot of them don't stay in Baton Rogue very long....

Graduated in 2022 from Bama. Half the students were from Chicago or New Jersey it felt like. If you walked down the street in my apartment complex and only read the license plates, you wouldn’t have any idea where you were in the country.

If you read through the thread you see that Alabama, Georgia and Clemson are the three most popular. The smart kids are choosing Vanderbilt, SMU, and Georgia Tech.
Alabama is nearly 60% out of state right now.
I think this is good for the overall culture. Ive shared my daughter's story. She dreamed of an Ivy. Got accepted to Dartmouth. Went up there and completely felt out of place. Ended up at Georgia Tech. Met her soon to be husband, got a great job in Charlotte and had a wonderful, non-woke college experience.
My youngest may end up just going the classic Ole Miss/UMMC route and seems content.

I'm from Monroe, but my Harvard-educated, New York-born father sincerely thought it was a good idea to send me away to an elite prep school in New Hampshire. The school is always ranked among the best secondary schools in America.
We have a classical Christian academy associated with our church here in Ouachita Parish. The education they receive is MUCH better than what I received at my snobby New England prep school.
If you can, I highly recommend finding a classical Christian academy for your children.
Here's a link to find such schools:

Carpetbaggers are not to be celebrated.

I agree. Very little good can come from this.

Seems like half the kids mine hang out with at a North Carolina college are from Jersey

A lot of their smart kids also come down to attend Emory U near Atlanta and Rice in Houston. Of the 5 schools listed here the prettiest girls are at SMU.

Invasion incoming with their freakish ideas.

Other than Texas A&M or Auburn, I'm not sure that makes the massive difference that is implied here.

What’s happening is normal kids are seeing on tv SEC football games with raucous crowds, tailgating, beautiful women and thinking “I want to be part of that, looks fun”
