This is actually crazy but here are the drives without a Durham carry.

1. 3 plays 9 yards punt
2. 6 plays 13 yards punt
3. 4 plays -15 yards blocked Pint
4. 9 plays 74 yards TO on Downs
5. 4 plays 10 yards Fumble
6. 3 plays -1 yards ain’t

the drives where Durham got 1 or more carry

1. 8 plays 75 Yards TD (1 carry 26 yards TD)
2. 4 plays 7 yards FG (1 carry 2 yards)
3. 6 plays 75 Yards TD (1 carry 4 yards)
4. 5 plays 45 yards TD (2 carrie’s 29 yards TD)
5. 10 plays 80 yards TD (3 carrie’s 33 yards)
6. 4 plays 9 yards Punt (1 carry no yards)
7. 8 plays 55 yards TD (2 carrie’s 14 yards)

Obviously he can’t get all the credit. It’s just an insane difference and i think a lot has to do with not just him running the ball insanely well but him making the defense care about the run

Barring injury, the next great RB at LSU.

There's not really any good reason to have Kaleb Jackson getting any important carries at this point.

I agree. Kaleb needs too long to get up to speed, and goes down easily when touched.

They need to tell him to run to green like he's never gonna get another carry again. And stop trying to hit stick every defender. Do whats necessary to get more yards, that's it. He never uses his hands either.. I imagine he could stiff arm alot of these 1 on 1 defenders... he's 235 and built like brick shite house... but keeps getting his clock rung by every defender.

Every player needs experience. Are you calling for other 3rd string players to get significant snaps?

I could see some value putting Kaleb in the backfield in an H-back type role for a few games. Instead of getting the ball to him and expecting his vision to just "get better", put him in a position where he's supposed to pass pro or lead block for a runner without the added load of also carrying the rock.

Letting him learn how the backfield works while watching other RB's carry the ball may be the only way Kaleb gets better. Truth is if he doesn't find a way to improve - and soon - he may end up near the bottom of the RB room next year. Which would be sad because he has the potential to be really good if he can get better than trying to emulate Earl Campbell hitting the pile (but not moving it like Earl could).

And, before the "but the OL run blocking sucks" crowd starts yelling and making excuses for Kaleb, Durham ran behind the same exact line with a lot more success.

well technically i am calling for our 3rd string Rb yo get all the snaps

but we would rearrange the depth chart.

Jackson actually had one really good run this game. he is just slow making his cuts and reads.

we need to reconsider how we use him maybe. idk if he’s a great zone running back at this point.

Thanks for putting that together. Wild to see. As you mentioned, he doesn’t get all of the credit, but something is there. Maybe our calls are different to fit him, and it just fits the offense as a whole better??

It's one game but hopefully we've found our RB1 and can start running the ball with more success.

Durham broke tackles, and that is the only reason he gained 1/2 the yardage he gained. KJ has broken zero tackles and is too slow these days. I hate to say it because I had him pegged for a big year. Not the back he was last year. Not sure why, except maybe bad weight...but he has lost his quickness and burst through the line......and he hasn't had any holes to run through at all. The OL has to grossly improve for this running game to be of help in the play action passing game.

that’s fine… I would rather a RB be at least in a position to break a tackle 4 yards down field than slamming into the OL 0-2 yards down field.

I mean Kaleb Jackson is great if you give him a 10 yard head start to gain momentum and tell him to run over someone. Besides that he's not really great at much. We aren't really at a point where we can give the ball to the 3rd best back in important spots just so he can gain experience.

He looked better without the additional weight.

Just my opinion, but when JD was in the backfield he was the ONLY runner any defense keyed on.

Having Daniels at QB in the backfield instantly opened up holes elsewhere for other backs to run through, so IMO that masked the actual deficiencies in our RB room (and possibly on the OL as well, at least for running plays).

Now there's no JD threatening to run, so defenses are back to keying on our RB's in running situations. Couple that with Chester at center and an OL that's better at pass pro than run blocking and it spells trouble for a RB that can't cut or hit holes.

Durham looked incredible.

It looks like Kaleb and Josh got too big. They have no wiggle.

I’m scared our strength and diet teams are going to mess up Durham like they did the other two backs.

amazing how a RB who breaks tackles can affect an offense. I'm really hoping Josh Williams and Kaleb Jackson see that they need to step up their game and start getting some yards after contact, or else Durham's gonna take well over 50% of the carries moving forward.

I think one of the biggest differences is he didn't run the intended plays as they were called....instead of running into the back of an O-lineman, like our other RBs had been doing, he bounced it out the backside where there were literally no players.

Kudos to him for actually using some vision.
