Since we arent very good at making the weekly threads I figured I'd start this up and we can use it for the final 3 weeks. I'll update the standings every few days or so

As of today, here is a quick summary for where things stand

National League

Looks like the Phillies, Brewers, and Dodgers all have their divisions locked up. The wild card race is where things look to be exciting. A week or so ago it seemed all but certain the 3 wild card teams were gonna be Padres, DBacks, and Braves but the Mets have won 9 of their last 10 and are now tied with Atlanta for the 3rd wild card spot. Arizona is only 1.5 games ahead of them in 2nd, with San Diego a half game ahead of Arizona in 1st

There is still 3 weeks remaining so plenty of time for one of those 4 teams to fall out of contention, but its worth noting the Mets visit Atlanta for a 3 game series in the last week of the season which has the potential to be awesome

American League

As has been the case for pretty much the entire season, the battle for who wins the AL East between the Yankees and Orioles is the closest race to watch. The Yankees currently have a half game lead over them right now. It is very likely whoever finishes 2nd in the East will get the top wild card spot.

Cleveland is still the favorite to win the central although they only lead KC by 2.5 games. Houston really shite the bed by getting swept in Cincy last week but still hold a 4.5 game lead over Seattle.

At the moment the AL Wild Card seems like it'll be 2nd place in the East followed by KC and Minnesota, but Seattle and Detroit (what? ) are only 3.5 games back from Minnesota so they are still technically alive but both of those teams probably need to go on some kind of streak winning 7-8 out of 10 to have a chance.

Hope we get some good discussion in here over the next few weeks, hate that the season is winding down but as always pumped for some October baseball to watch

Their whole team is on the disabled list.
It’s remarkable they’ve done as well as they’ve done

Aaron Judge has gone 12 games without hitting a homer. That's all I got.

Posting this here for littleavery and jerry to cry about.

MLB.com Judge Vs Ohtani

quote:

I agonized over which side to select before resting on the fact that there is no wrong answer here, so just go with your gut.

Ohtani is having the more historic season.

But in my mind, historic is not the optimal word for this exercise because both players are making history in their own way. Ultimately, Ohtani’s season is more memorable because it could be exclusive. As good of a year as Judge is enjoying -- it might be among the 10 best offensive seasons in AL/NL history, as Mike presented above -- we have seen something similar from him recently. Judge’s 62-homer campaign in 2022 ranks 17th-best all time by wRC+.

But who thought we would see Ohtani pair his prodigious power with the possibility of 50-plus steals? It’s gobsmacking how the player who commonly does things we’ve never seen before continues to do things we’ve never seen before -- all while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

And look, we gravitate toward big, round numbers in sports. Although Judge has been absolutely dominant, there is something about 50-50 that will stick with baseball fans. There are only six players who have made it into the 40-40 club. Going a level beyond that is almost unfathomable.

In closing, Ohtani’s 2024 season stands to be more “historic” for this reason: We are witnessing the world’s most talented baseball player achieve something that has never been accomplished in the big leagues.

Mookie being out sucked, but they haven’t come close to dealing with the injuries ATL has.

Look at the lineups the Dodgers were using in Jine and July to go with the rotation we've had to use this year

You'd get rock hard over that, wouldn't you?

The fact they're even in the playoff hunt is a testament to how deep the team is.

You are not supposed to post this on the day the Yankees start a series against the Royals.

That’s certainly a shitty lineup. But I know it hasn’t been the norm for you guys. We’ve been playing with replacement guys once May.

No use arguing over whose team is hurt worse. I hope both clubs can get some retribution for last years pathetic playoff performances.
