in his dads Truck in Brusly.
BRUSLY - A child died Sunday after finding a loaded gun in his father’s truck and pulling the trigger Sunday morning.
The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office said the self-inflicted shooting happened in Brusly. Details are limited but deputies said a 4-year-old found the gun in his father’s truck when the adult stepped out to adjust his trailer. While he was unsupervised, the child got into the secure area where the gun was kept.

Oh man. He even had the gun in a secured location? That's awful.

Not very secure if a 4 year old has access.

Secure area???? Not so secure if a 4 yr. old can access it.

Dad will face criminal charges and have to live with the fact he is a failure as a father for letting his child get hold of a loaded gun and killing himself with it.

That will haunt him long after any criminal charges are over and done with.

Not sure why the police would say it was secure if it wasn't.

What's the law in Louisiana about having a gun in your car?

Is it that hard to not have one chambered when you’re not around the weapon? So sad.

Dad will kill himself tonight if he has a shred of decency. I sure would. But then again, I would never be so stupid as to put a kid near a loaded gun, so I wouldn’t have to worry about it.

safes are great, but can you use the gun if you need it instantly?

This is why you introduce them to what a gun is and what is does and what to do if they find one, in addition to always keeping it out of reach. Also no reason to have one in the chamber at all times.

I hear so many people say, "I carry it hot, one in the pipe." That's stupid, just like down range you should carry based on threat. If in a high threat area, yeah locked and loaded, you're in a low threat area (which is likely 99.99% of the time), unloaded. Even better, mag out.

A 4-year-old isn’t going to have a clue.
