This guy is getting roasted by pretty much the whole internet at this rate. Thought the OT parents would enjoy this one.

quote:

I talked my wife into going on a date at a swanky restaurant tonight and it was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done.

- Our two-year-old with anger-control issues refused to stay with the babysitter, so we had to take her with us.

- She also demanded that her older sister come with us. So we ended up with two kids, a table full of Magna-Tiles, and zero romantic ambience.

- The toddler stole my wife’s drink and wouldn’t stop screaming when she took it back until we ordered her a “mocktail” as a replacement (when she starts sneaking tequila sunrises at age 17, this will probably be part of the reason why).

- The young couple on a first date at the table next to us is permanently scarred and definitely not having children now.

- The toddler also screamed all the way home because we wouldn’t let her walk next to the visibly high homeless person sitting outside the restaurant door on the way out.

My wife literally told me to just take everyone to Chuck E. Cheese next time. 0/10 experience, I’m never trying to be romantic again until these kids are in college.

TL;DR: Guy lets his 2 year old dictate whether he and his wife goes on a romantic date.

Shitty parents raise shitty kids then complain about it on the Internet, that's new.

The guy deserves to be roasted. Who cares if the kid refused to stay with the baby sitter?

10 minutes after they left the kid would've been fine.

Thankfully, my kids were great in restaurants at an early age.

But I can tell you in the rare moments where one would start acting up in any way, the missus would haul their asses out the car and I would get the to go boxes. They (and we) weren't going to ruin anyone else's evening.

That's why he usually stays home with the kids when the boyfriends takes her out to dinner.

Go to any restaurant in America and you’ll see kids with their faces buried in devices. Total lack of parenting.

He's not big on life experiences, I see. That's fine.

This would be stopped immediately.

My dad would’ve lit my arse up and told me to behave and if I didn’t.. I would get another whooping when they got home . This behavior would not be tolerated .

Adults are so scared to be the adult and discipline their children and then are mad they won’t listen to them

Anecdotal story: my friend and I played golf a couple years ago.. he had a then 2 year old. Well. apparently the child screamed and insisted that she go with her dad to our golf outing that afternoon… so instead of my friend being the adult and saying no, you aren’t going. You are staying home with mom… then the mom and child rent their own cart and drive with us. And at each hole, the child has to run around and use her own little putter and then she falls and cries hysterically and just kills the entire vibe of the round and afternoon .

His wife hates the pussy she married. I bet she also enables the kid's douchebagery.

Yeah that one got me too.

Your kid doesn’t have “anger control issues”. She’s a 2 year old acting like a 2 year old. Be the adult. Leave her with the babysitter (and throw her some extra cash for dealing with a cranky kid) and go to the restaurant with your wife.

Yup. The two year old doesn’t have anger issues; the two year old knows that you can’t stand to watch them scream/cry, so they scream/cry to get what they want. A two year old can refuse to eat peas, I guess. But they sure as shite can’t refuse to stay home.

You mean most toddlers aren't rational beings? Surely every baby can be reasoned with.

There are a lot of ways to keep kids from screaming at restaurants. The easiest and most effective is to not take them.

A hot toddy will do in a pinch.

My sister and I were nearly always included when my parents went to dinner growing up. I can’t speak to what we were like as babies, but once we were old enough to hold and watch an electronic device, we sure as shite weren’t screaming in a restaurant, and frankly, I don’t really remember hearing other kids scream as well.

The core problem is that parents are letting kids get addicted to constant stimulation, then they are shocked when the kids exhibit withdrawal symptoms and have to give them their fix.

Bingo.

You throw a fit, I pick your arse up, carry you outside.

If you turn it around on the walk to the door, we stand outside for a moment to see if you're pretending. If it's a real correction, back inside. Fake? Into the car seat with the AC going. Ill stand outside the truck and have a water until the wife gets outside.

After the third time, little man has no interest in crying it out for ten minutes.

Not getting to the root cause here. The device is a bandaid because people don't actually parent. Everyone is trying to be their kids best friend instead of their parent.
