Do you think FSU & Clemson could end up in the Big12?

Could they pull this off? They seem very aggressive and eager to make a point that they aren’t going anywhere.

I’m hearing mumbles that FSU has something up their sleeve prior to B10 and SEC media days.

Makes sense. FSU belongs in a conference like the Big 12

Sad thing is it’s better than the ACC.

If those 2 move, 100% or even just FSU.

Both have bad, bad bottom feeders.

Clemson and FSU see the writing on the wall with two "super conferences", and they don't want to be left behind. Right now the Big 10 and SEC aren't accepting new members (though that could change). So I guess the general thought is Clemson/FSU are hedging their bets on which of the ACC or Big 12 ultimately survives. Given football dictates everything they may be placing their bets on the Big 12 being the survivor.

That would be a lateral move. The future of college football is 2 conferences. You’re either in them or you’re going to get screwed

The Big 12 would be a huge step down from the ACC

There are zero blue bloods or power football schools in the Big 12.

?? Who would be the blue blood power schools left in the ACC if FSU and Clemson leave? Even now Big 12 is better top to bottom, no question. Especially If we are talking success over the last 10 seasons.

It’s July. What’s the point of making this move now? Do they want to go on a revenge tour in the ACC this season flipping everyone off on the way out?

Given Florida State’s agitation over the last few years, I can see them doing that.

They have NOT been happy in the ACC and I don’t doubt they would try to drag their nuts over the conference in a lame duck season.

I see 2 conferences being the future, but the TV networks may dictate which teams they want in those leagues. I don’t think Vandy, Miss State, Rutgers, etc are completely in the clear for the future

Perhaps the move by these two will be to form a new smaller big tv market conference. Where the payout conference wise would be smaller but equal more money with less teams. Just thinking out loud. Could look something like this and maybe if there is talk of Big 12. That’s where it’s coming from.

FSU
Miami
North Carolina
Clemson
Syracuse (New York)
Houston
TCU (Dallas)
Colorado (Denver)
Arizona (Phoenix)
Stanford (Los Angelas, SanFran)
Washington State (Seattle)
Cincinnati

This could be paired to 10 teams if necessary.

Ok maybe I have missed something but why does everybody think the future is 2 super conferences instead of say 3? I think the future is the power conference schools i their own division but why is 2 super conference the number. I don’t see an nfl style playoff system with the 2 conferences separating the teams. I could see 3 super conference or even 4 with the st one being very weak but allowed to survive. While there will definitely be 2 conferences with the most power/prestige I just don’t see the logic in 2 being the magic number of conferences existing. It’s like somebody mentioned the 2 super conference thing one time and people latched on to it and now act like it is inevitable when I can’t see any reason it needs or has to be that

My guess is that both the Big 10 and SEC are stable enough and have the high end programs to survive.

It is less sure whether one of the Big 12 or ACC does so, especially since the Big 12 was at death’s door not so long ago when the PAC attempted to raid them and subsequently when OU and UT bolted to the SEC.

I’d say with what the big 12 gained from the pac 10 they are now stable and can go on indefinitely. They are definitely third if you are ranking them but the conference will never be equal even if we move to 2. If they add any halfway legitimate programs in the coming years from the ACC or possible the mountain west that improves their position even more and would mean there is zero reason the Big 12 has to dissolve. Now the ACC might be in real trouble but I don’t see why 2 super conferences makes any more sense than 3

With the huge caveat of whether this is true, I think you hit one half of this with the stability part. I think the other half is that the money for TV rights has probably dried up at least a decent bit. It seems like all the media companies are tightening the purse strings, hence why the SEC didn't go to 9 games.

as someone who still likes the ACC, I think this conference would still make as much or close to money overall as current contract and increase payouts to teams...

FSU
Miami
Clemson
UNC
NC State
UVA
VT
GT
Pitt
WVU (Louisville to Big 12)

And offer ND same deal as now...they would probably would be happier with WF, Duke, etc out of the rotation.

You do lose basketball powers in Duke and Cuse but I think the better fan support from WVU is worth it.
