That is a New Orleans answer . He asked about Louisiana. In Louisiana it’s LSU and not close . I know a lot of folks who don’t care about the NFL much less the saints . For NOLA it’s the saints for the state it is LSU

Super Bowl was much bigger for me being from New Orleans and I was a SR at the NC game. shite still felt kinda empty given the media was trying to discredit it at every turn.
That superbowl season was just insane.

Living in New Orleans for both, I can say LSU didn't shut down every major highway in the city because people were stopped and dancing on the road.

Myth
bullshite it’s a myth. Best I can tell almost anyone who is originally from NWLA who watches the NFL is a proclaimed Cowboys fan. That’s not to say they don’t like or cheer for the Saints but the Cowboys will be always be #1 for a lot of people up here- my wife’s family and all their friends being some of them.
The local news stations and their sports reports are more Cowboys centric with the Saints being secondary. There was a time when people up here couldn’t even watch the Saints unless they were in a nationally televised game.

I would say the Super Bowl, for many it was the first good thing to happen after Katrina

No sporting event brought me as much joy as winning the title in 2003. After the 90’s, part of me is still in disbelief.

The New Orleans Saints winning was bigger for New Orleans
Louisiana State University was bigger for Louisiana
If the area kf New Orleans to orange beach was a singular state maybe that would be bigger. That gulf coast area from Nola to Alabama bleeds black and gold. Louisiana outside of Nola just isn’t diehard saints. Baton Rouge is only 60 miles from Nola and it’s fairly indifferent to the saints. When they were wining and rolling people hopped on but it isn’t close to being diehard. Tiger stadium was a ghost town for saints games

Super Bowl by a long shot…..

Super Bowl was WAY bigger.

I think it's funny how people say "by a long shot" or "not even close" for both responses in this thread so many times. Clearly, it is pretty close and both were very meaningful and is going to differ depending on who you ask which one meant more.

Definitely the Saints. LSU didn’t really win the championship that year.

For the state it is easily 2003 LSU.

To me 2003 LSU because I had been a long time LSU season ticket holder. I love the Saints but nothing like LSU. Having not been born until 1968 I didn't see the 1958 National Championship. It was always my dream to see LSU win a natty but the thing is LSU has mostly always been good if not great and we knew championships were possible if they could get their shite together. With the Saints they were historically a terrible franchise. Except for a few good years under Jim Mora with the Dome Patrol teams they always sucked. After katrina, most were convinced they would eventually move. No one saw 2009 coming. I think the Super Bowl was bigger simply because we never thought we would ever see it.
