Is the government responsible for Costco beef prices?

The Canadian dollar is weak against the USD. $4.98 USD is what Canadians are actually paying for the ground beef after conversion.
The price I could read was $10.99/kg
That is $5.00 (4.9954, repeating of course)/lb, in Canadian dollars.
Using the 0.73 conversion for CAD to USD, that comes to $3.656 in USD

Just a reminder that the conversion rate from CAD to USD is not 1:1. It's 1.37:1. So that 39 dollar pack of ground beef would be $28.43. I just bought that same thing a week ago for ~$27. So our food inflation isn't too far off from theirs.

Yes. The regulations they impose and taxes they levy have a direct impact on beef as a commodity, which of course gets passed on to the consumer.

Food wasn't overly expensive under Trump.

What?
Brother, I've been beating the anti-printing/inflation drum since 2008.

Inflation had not hit from his reckless spending, following a decade of reckless spending as well.
We may not even be feeling the effects of the spending under the Biden administration yet

I think the national herd size is at its lowest in several years.
One of them told me yearlings were bringing over $2 a pound, just a couple years ago it was $1.10. Many small farmers are older and thinking of selling out according to both of them.

Converting kilograms to pounds and Canadian currency to USD, it worked out to about $3.65 a pound for ground beef. How does that compare to here?
Just checked my local BJ’s website. 73/27 is $3.30/Lb and 88/12 is roughly $4.30/lb.

At Fresh Market it was 2.99 a pound yesterday.

Look, you like to be accurate.
Spending only happens if congress allows it.
COVID spending was demanded by congress. It was passed by a veto proof majority. Practically EVERYONE wanted the spending because they deemed it necessary due to government COVID shutdowns.
Good, bad or indifferent that increase in money supply was supported by almost everyone and at the time I said the costs of this "printing" was going to be inflation. But the antidote to inflation is productivity coupled with monetary tightening.
Congress under Biden added fuel to the fire. Not only did they continue to "print" (or force the FR to buy Treasury bonds to increase money supply) they discouraged productively.
We saw this in last quarter's economic numbers. Productivity was lower than inflation. That is called stagflation.

Beef prices? They don’t even know what language to speak.

At least once a week.

I would happily merge with Alberta.
We need to accept Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Yukon, NT, and Nunavut as a single state. We'd get their oil and agriculture and let the coasts rot.
