Ted James seems to recognize the black community and culture have issues.
However, he blames all of these problems on whitey, and believes only whitey's money, along with a lot of affirmative action, will solve these issues.
His politics are closer to the Squad than anything.

These politicians have no vision and can’t think more than one media cycle ahead.
A decent amount of it is how much grift they can get from a project or how they can make political hay from it.
That tire recycling grant is a good example of how things that would have been good for the parish and cost nothing got killed because bringing work to NBR isn’t good enough if it is jobs they don’t like.

He worked on Kamala's Presidential campaign.

Is he the same legislator who authored a bill a few years ago trying to LOWER the standard for TOPS qualifying?

Single dumbest thing she did, IIRC, was kill the transit project between downtown and LSU that would have been federally funded because there wouldn’t have been stops in NBR.
She killed it for the wrong reason, but it needed killing.
It may be the best thing she’s ever done.

My point is that there have been a number of projects with support and federal funding attached which she killed because it either didn’t directly benefit NBR and/or it allowed someone other than her any bit of credit for success.

I truly believe a decent republican candidate could actually win this election if they have some money and charisma and actually campaign. With the black vote split and the presidential election driving turnout in the open primary, a republican could make the runoff. In the runoff, turnout will be low which greatly favors republicans.
Okay, who is this "decent republican candidate" you speak of? I can think of a couple of people who check the right boxes... but they would never even consider running for that office (and who can blame them).

Sounds like Baton Rudge is headed in a predictable direction.

Well understood
Just saying that we need a lot of things way more than we need a rail between Downtown and LSU. All this was just to help a developer or three.

And if he does, will a Ted James administration be different/better than SWB?
Perhaps. But only marginally.
Posted on 5/1/24 at 1:37 pm to Red Stick Rambler
Ted James will absolutely beat SWB.
EBR isn’t very smart so his qualifications don’t matter to most. What matters are the optics. He’s a young, nice looking black man that appears to be a single father.
I really liked Tara Wicker but SWB got her removed last election.
Apparently the republicans have given up cause I haven’t heard a peep about who’s running on their end.

The governor really ought to be taking a hard look at how to get the BR/EBR city parish ran by an elephant.
The voting base is for the most part very stupid and predictable. To win, check these boxes:
Someone famous - even if just SELA famous
Someone handsome
Someone charismatic
Someone not an "old white man"

Here's a brilliant idea. Try to implement what the people of St George wanted and maybe you van get them to retract wanting to become another city. Until then...well....not my problem

Ted James is a nice guy who has spent his career working for the national democrat party.
Hard pass.
Someone help me out here - does the entirety of EBR parish still get a vote on Mayor-President? I would assume so, but no idea . . . BC it does seem a little wackadoodle to me that St. George, Central, Zachary, etc have their own mayors and if you live in BR City Limits we don’t have our own mayor.
Not sure if that would make shite here better or worse, but it’s clear that neither SWB nor James would have any interest in representing or administering the Parish Govt

Supposed "Republican stalwarts" of EBRP. Regardless, they're done with Broome.

Yes, the whole parish votes.
The deal is that the parish merged so that mayor of BR and the parish president are one position, but not all parts of the parish are considered to be in BR.
This isn’t the case in Orleans where everything within it is incorporated into NOLA IIRC.

Alot of Republican business people are lining up to support him from what I understand. They want Broome out bad.

Correct. Lafayette is the same.
Consolidated government for EBRP makes zero sense, and hasn't for a long time.

I’ve been told by a developer that if it didn’t benefit NBR, Broome didn’t want to hear about it.
Btw, JBE signed the law that authorized the SG transition team after SG won the vote. He appointed two of the SG organizers to the team, and authorized Rep. Edmonds, Senator White and Mayor Broome to appoint a member each. Broome failed to appoint to anyone. She let her personal beef get in the way of her official duties.
Citizens of SG need to remember this.
