NIL allows for unlimited roster sizes

It’s damn nuts, but that’s what’s happening. Hopefully athletes push back and go play somewhere willing to give them a scholarship. Not sure kids care enough about that now though.

Athletes are not going to accept a walk-on role b/c of NIL. They will choose the school that offers a scholarship spot along with NIL.

Why would an athlete care about getting a scholarship over cash money?
That's irrational.

Is there any proof this is happening in any numbers?

Yea, well the schools are pushing for it…I hope you’re right.

I don't even know why we're still pretending to require them to be enrolled in classes anyway at this point, honestly.

Because scholarships are tax free, and tuition/room/board can be very expensive, especially at a private school or if you are out-of-state.
And outside of a small amount of players at a small amount of schools, the players aren't getting near enough NIL money for this to even be a question.

What schools? You are making claims without any proof.

The athletes might not as much, but the NIL donors do. A guy that would cost them $500k might cost them $1 million without scholarship benefits. They aren’t going to do that when there’s a guy on scholarship riding the bench that they can process.

Is this about kickers? Because schools have pushed for them to be walk-ons, academic scholarships, etc., forever.
I could see a borderline signee/preferred walk-on getting thrown some NIL money to walk-on. But this won't affect any high-level players.
Also, there are rules that prevent this. If you have been "recruited" by a school and then walk-on, you still count against the numbers. There is a specific definition for a recruited player.
Schools have tried to do this long before NIL, thus the rule.

Proof? I sit across the table from SEC coaches and talk offers about my son. I am not going frick his chances up. You go compete again this summer and make them need you. He has full scholarship + NIL at other SEC schools so I just stare at the NIL only coaches with a blank look. We’ll be back, see what they say later.

They are clearly pushing this to see what the NCAA will do.

Interesting. How much more are the NIL only schools offering over the scholarship schools?

Schools that can.
Can you name one?

He’ll be a Sr this year, so we’re still talking to coaches. Dead set on the SEC…but we’ll see.

False. Roster still has limits around 125ish. & you still have limited scholarship numbers. You’re assuming we could “pay” for good players to join as walk ons.
Like others have said - show us examples of this happening. Sure, it’s possible, but not many are doing it.
