I’m not sure what precisely you’re talking about.
But I alternate among these three highly versatile vest-styles, depending on whether I’m fighting bullies, hillbilly rednecks trying to boof my paddling mates, or savages and train robbers.
Real-life:
I wear a vest when it’s just chilly enough to warrant a little extra core insulation while leaving the arms free to breathe. It’s a subtle determination. Usually a dry, still late-fall day. It’s easier to move around in a vest too. To shoot and stab bad guys.

OP never worn a vest and it shows. I’m sure he thought this was funny. When it’s a little colder and a jacket is overkill, yes a vest is practical. Warms the core of your body and your arms by extension. Sleeves are really mostly for wind blocking so doesn’t matter with a vest. Also not all vests are Patagonia finance bro types, the Barbour and orvis twill ones are nice as hell.

Peter Millar sells a lot of golf apparel. Vests have long been a common thing for golfers bc they keep the chest warm and let the arms be unobstructed.

You'd have to kill me to take my finance bro vest from me.

I own four Carhartt and Columbia vests. I wear them when it’s cold, but I’m going to be inside my classroom most of the day. Plus, I think they’re kind of dashing.

I like vests when golfing.

Man, that Filson Mackinaw Wool Vest will keep you warm out on the range. Been around for a lot longer that these millenials. I first started wearing them after going on a Montana elk hunt. All the guides had them, and sold me on the benefits of keeping your core warm while your putting in heavy effort. It's like putting a foot out from underneath the covers to help regulate temperature.
FWIW, there's very few days in the South La winter I would wear this wool vest.

One other thing: the vest is perfect for the dad bod. Hides the gut but shows off the arms.

I’d say they’re concealing a pistol, but folks who wear that sort of vest are likely scared of guns.

Retain body heat. On a cool day, you can wear a short sleeve shite with a vest and be very comfortable. I love a vest. Cold day, throw a vest on over a hoodie, and you'll be really warm. Arms not bulky if you need to do some work outside. It's great.

This is 75% of my reason . . . the other 25% is that it is an acceptable substitute for a sport coat in the workplace as it shows you’ve done more than just wear a golf shirt to work. But the main reason is that it is easier and neater than trying to keep a tucked-in shirt looking neat all day.
The OP is just jealous that McDonalds doesn’t allow it with their dress code.
