I would have said beach when I was younger, but as I get older I would have to pick mountain.
A normal evolution.

No, it’s not. I live on Lake Hamilton and from Memorial Day through Labor Day you’d think the whole world knows about it.

I was just talking with a friend who has a place on lake Hamilton in hot springs. Severely underrated spot if you ask me.
Lake Hamilton is very well known lol. It’s also very small.
Greers Ferry is a better option, imo.

I spend much of the year in South Florida and I hate Miami.

Why do you hate it?
So much to unpack there. The overall culture is trash IMO. The traffic is really really bad, the crime is horrendous, The Cubans are a bunch of entitled Karen’s that carry fake $5k handbags, talk like they own half of Florida, and argue of a 10% discount on a $5 purchase. My wife and I joke that we never feel more white and more old as when we eat out in Miami.
I prefer New Orleans and NYC a ton more than SE Florida.

I still own my home on the side of Cheyenne Mountain and plan to spend my summers there when I retire in 2-years since the snow is relentless in the winter at times. And F**k that B, I'm giving up a lot to get that home in the divorce because I love the home and the view.
I miss the beach, but the redneck tourists whenever I go is so unappealing.
My vote is both, but you have to find the right spot for each. Play your cards right when you are young so you can have the best of both worlds later in life.

I would take the mountains over the panhandle. I'd take somewhere like Martha's Vineyard or Cape Cod over both.

Mountain, easily, especially if it's on some sort of water for fishing. Seems every time my family goes on a beach trip we spend more time in the pool area than on the beach.

They would both have a nice view.
I might go with mountain so I don't have to worry about hurricanes.

I faced that choice in 2013, and I went for the Rocky Mountains. We’ve had it 11 years and we love it.

Yeah that’s true the culture can be pretty trashy, but if you go just a little farther north, places like Boca Raton and Palm Beach are pretty quiet and nice.

I agree it gets better up that way, but it still has too much of the same vibe for my wife and I. I was in the Cherry Creek Mall today in Denver and we talked about how different it is than South Florida.

Give me a SoCal beach house over a mountain house.

Mountain house. I am DONE with beach houses.
Insurance on them are insane on the Gulf Coast.

Parents got one in Whitefish, MT. In winter we have skiing, summer we have Glacier NP.
Halfway there. Now wife and I just need to finish convincing the in-laws to get the beach house on the panhandle so we have a place we can drive to for sporadic vacays too. Making progress currently as they’re house hunting.
Can be a profitable venture as well. Parents profit off of their MT house as a rental and just block it off whenever they want to go or plan a family vacation.
