But why?
Brazil is one of the hardest countries to visit from the US. They make it intentionally hard for us to visit because they feel like we make it hard for them to come here.
They actually slacked up some on the requirements because they were trying to get more tourists. This is just notification that they are going back to what they used to do. When I used to go there you had to go in person to New Orleans or Houston to get a visa. And even then they only saw a few people a day. It was a huge PITA.

In person is a pain. For India I had to mail my passport to the Indian Consulate in Houston. I'm sure "losing" a few of those a year is a good way to make some black market money or something.
Anyway, the neat thing about those types of hurdles is the visa page in the passport always looks cool as hell. Much better than a stamp.

I went twice, both times for the Brazilian GP and it was the biggest PITA of any country I have visited. When Michael Schumacher announced his retirement and it looked like he would win his 8th WDC I tried my level best to get down there to see the race and couldn't get a visa in time.

Oh, Canada. They already knew in Winnipeg where my retirement accounts where held, before they pulled every American out for additional screening. And not ten minutes of additional screening, hours of it.
And if you want to know what I had to upload to get into Australia, let me know.
