There were hundreds of people in the US Navy at the time who could have been interviewed by the media. That naval gunnery expert would have told us that the USS Maine's gunpowder charges may have spontaneously ignited due to instability caused by the hot and humid climate in Cuba.
Bad journalism is the reason why that never happened.
