His defense has really improved. You can tell he spent the off-season on 3rd base working his arse off

Probably made himself $1.5-$2 million for that improvement

He reminds me a lot of cal Ripken Jr

I wonder who he was working with. I also wonder how much he was able to throw, or if it was all just improving footwork and agility

The play last night was the most impressive by far. That dig on the short hop and then that throw

He’s a 15 year vet playing in a league of kids

If the shoulder injury was to his throwing arm last year, that may also explain the improvement. Either shoulder though, being actually fully healthy makes everything work better.

Feel like he lost some weight. Looks to be in great shape now

It was, and I think it does explain the improvement, though maybe not in the way you're suggesting. It's a bitch to rehab from a torn labrum repair--you can't throw or swing for months. So all Tommy could really do for most of the off-season was taking ground balls and work on his agility/lateral movement. Nobody wants to ever be cut on, but it could have been a blessing in disguise for him. His fielding this year has definitely made him a lot of money. And a lot of it is likely due to the fact that that's all he could actually work on for months.

Bigger surprise Jones at 1st or Tommy at third? Jones has been really good for having had played catcher last few years.

I was thinking more of an Ozzie smith clone.

Tommy knows he will never make it in the Bigs if he can’t play 3B at a high level.

At least pick a 3rd baseman to reference. Geez.
How about Brooks Robinson or Mike Schmidt.

You ever heard of a DH or 1B?

Hope it adds some arrow to his future. I love players that grind hard to get better

He was solid in the post season last year. But he is flashing it this season.

Tommy is probably the identity of this team
