Cocktails, Popeyes and New Iberia Haircuts were originated in Louisiana.

The Battle of Port Hudson, one of the bloodiest battles of the civil war, actually happened after the war was over.

I know that there was some woman who purchased slaves so she could take them home a torture them in some kinda torture chamber in NOLA.

The state of Louisiana only cost $15 million. The Superdome was around $165 million

I think that was Madame LaLaurie... her mansion is on Royal Street, but in private ownership so not available for touring. The first time I learned the story was from American Horror story.. I thought it was an outlandish character in the episodes, and was shocked to learn there was a real Delphine LaLaurie that the character was based on.
Seems in real life she escaped her house fire and fled to Paris, never having to pay for her crimes.

Named after Gene Hackman’s character (Popeye Doyle) in The French Connection, and not the sailor man…according to Al Copeland.

I love that history seems to have been preserved in much of the state just because nobody had the money or thought to tear stuff down.

That's the cost of the Louisiana Purchase...the "state of Louisiana" was about 5% of the Louisiana purchase, and a large portion of the current state was not included.

My grandparents had a farm outside Leesville, La during WWII. Apparently, there was a big problem during the war with prostitutes due to the vicinity of the base in DeRidder. The Leesville police would arrest any single lady that came to town without having a valid reason to visit and send them to a prison. That prison was about 2-3 miles from my gp's farm with a swamp in between. Grandmom told me they fed "many a girl" that escaped and made it through the swamp. They left the back light on with food on a table for those who arrived after dark. She felt sorry for the girls and said many of them were probably innocent anyways.
Anyone seriously wanting to read La, history from its very beginning needs to read, "Louisiana History" by Antoine-Simon La Page du Pratz. Hard read but its an interesting book. Tells of a silver mine at Driskal mt< living with the natchez indians< a story of an old natchez chief traveling very far into the unknown lands< and just a lot of great stories>and my caps lock is screwed up< sorry bout that>

Nacogdoches, TX’s founders came from Natchitoches, LA. They tried but couldn’t remember how to spell Natchitoches.
Bless their hearts.

New Orleans was almost deemed "uninhabitable" by the french colonists when first settled.
The heat and the mosquitoes made it very unbearable for them

Wow, that is a bit aggressive, and decidedly unnecessary.
Enjoy your day and maybe get outside and get some sunlight.
