Yes I think you’re right. I believe I read this entire thing wrong, and was thinking pro-lifers want the cutoff to be less than 15 weeks or something.
I mean we do, but we'll take what we can get

I agree that it should be left to the States, and any campaigning around abortion should be how/why it needs to be left at the States. But I have 3 questions about this:
1) Why even allow it to go into the 2nd trimester?
2) Do victims of rape & incest need more than 15 weeks to make these decisions?
3) I thought "saving the of the mother" was a clear medical term that was excluded from abortion laws anyway

True. The statistics show since Roe v. Wade was overturned the number of abortions has increased slightly. People are simply going to states where it's legal.

it's due to mifepristone and misoprostol

I mean, I believe that at the moment of conception you are formed in God's image. So, I agree with him, but I don't agree with the national ban. Let the states determine.

Yeah I agree with that as well. I just misinterpreted this article and thread. Trump definitely shouldn’t push for a cutoff date that’s too extreme. Will have to settle somewhere in the middle to not lose voters.
However, he should absolutely just say it’s up to the states, and not give an amount of weeks or something. I agree with yall, I don’t think that’s a good strategy from him. I just find it hard to believe that abortion will be the deciding factor for whether people want to vote for Trump or not. If you care about social issues, you aren’t voting for Trump regardless of what he says he’ll do. If you care about the economy and things that matter, then abortion won’t make someone not vote for Trump. Just my two cents.

Even talking about this, is like shooting himself in the foot. Same with not distancing himself from the COVID vaxx.
I love the man, but he needs some better advice on both these topics.

Republicans need to leave this alone. It is a losing issue.

So how would a federal ban affect those states which have codified abortion in their constitution? For instance, California?
I am a simpleton when it comes to constitutional law but wouldn't state law trump a federal ban anyway?
What's the point of the federal ban then?

He’s fricking stupid to even be talking about this.

This. If the polling is truly correct (which I am serious skeptical about), all he has to do is not step on any land mines. And this is the biggest of them all. The suburban white women are trickling back to the right, but if abortion becomes a hot topic, they'll run right back to the left.

Or you do nothing and leave it to the states. If a whore wants her abortion she can cross state lines.

He’ll lose the election with that stance.

15 week ban bad strategy!

What is her male partner referred to in this scenario? How do we refer to the man who neglects to practice safe sex with a woman he knows so little about that she aborts their offspring?

This going to hurt him and down ballot conservatives.
You cannot make the case for years that abortion is a state’s issue to overturn RvW, then rush in with a federal abortion ban after the fact.
Bad move IMO. Voters aren’t going to like this.

I guess my question is what are we conceding?
In a hypothetical world where this went into law, provided it didn't require states to allow abortions up to 15 weeks (thereby allowing 6, 9, 10 week bans, etc.) - what do we lose here?
I could see an argument that it's the government of the United States declaring in a sense that abortion up to 15 weeks is one of our values, but don't we already do that and worse?
