The nearest Roses to Tyler is in Shreveport, 100 miles away from Tyler.
Tyler has an annual rose festival and a 14-acre municipal rose garden.

May have an opportunity to take a position in Tyler. Same position I currently hold in Lake Charles, but with a potential for a higher income. Looking for insights from anyone who currently lives or has lived in the area. TIA
Im from Lake Charles and live outside Dallas and travel to Tyler all the time for work. Id do it. Its a similar size town to LC but the area around is much better.
You're close to a lot of cool stuff so I would do it. Lots of women in those piney woods.

If you visit, make sure you to go to Stanleys BBQ at dinner time with all the college girls there for happy hour. That will close the deal.

Aside from the American Rose Center in Shreveport, there isn't a lot there dealing with roses.
Tyler has a lot more nurseries, gardens, history of roses.
It' snice to see some locals pulling for Lake Chuck, but that is a pretty hard case to make...

I will add to the Stanley's praise. Amazing food, cool spot, good-looking women in attendance.

No way i would leave LC area for Tyler.
Nothing wrong with Tyler. But LC wins this.

That place is a running joke around our group every time we go to Tyler.
Home of brookshires grocery store. It a growing town and has a lot to offer. the smaller towns around it are better places to live. NO INCOME TAX should be a big draw. I am sure property taxes are not cheap.

yearly threat of hurricanes
Not having hurricanes, insurance problems and frequent disruption is a selling point good enough for me. It is something of an oil town but nothing like LC and coastal points west. It also benefits from the Texas attitude of "doing things well" versus the Louisiana attitude of "who cares". Today's The Advocate" reports on Louisiana's population loss.

Time Out is closed (or was) we used to roll a keg in that place once a month, Stanley’s is meh as far as Texas BBQ goes…
BUT Tyler the city is great, I lived there for 20 years and would still be there if my job hadn’t taken me away. We go back a few times a year to see my in laws. My only real complaint is…. I don’t remember there being that many Mexicans lol.

It’s better than Lake Chuck. All I got.

That’s true of a lot of Deep East Texas towns. No matter how essential you are to your job, you ain’t one of them.
It's true anywhere in the South except for Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville, Tampa, Miami, and Charlotte. It's kind of one of the main reasons while a lot of rural areas don't see any of the benefits of the South's economic growth.

Checkout the Emerald Bay Club subdivision on Lake Palestine. A family friend just bought a nice house in there for around $300,000 but not on the water.

Would probably choose Lake Charles with all things being equal. Both relatively close to big cities, but Lake Charles itself has more amenities. Plus it's closer to most of my family and friends. I say this as someone who has chosen to live the DC metro a thousand miles away right now.

Only reason I know it, I've never been to Tyler, TX in my life.

They have a great mountain bike trails nearby. If you don't have any bikes, you'll need to get some!

Very similar topography to the trails in Ruston.
ETA:
East Texas is a lot like North Louisiana. Hilly, with lots of pine trees. Lots of lakes. Good barbecue. In general, their public schools are better than most here. High school football is the biggest thing in town.

Must drive your car and leaving it in LT parking.
