Apparently the male eggs are less hardy, so most of what is coming out are female. Ironically, those are the ones that bite.
Hopefully, they are all females and do not reproduce, but anyone who watched Jurassic Park knows that nature will find a way.

Wonders of genetic engineering. It took a few decades to figure out the best way to distribute the upcoming plagues.
Thank Bill Gates for his financial backing.
It’s all part of the population reduction initiative.

Did you grow up in New Orleans? We called dragonflies mosquito hawks. I'm trying to figure out if they call them that anywhere else.
Charleston and upstate SC so it is definitely not just a NOLA thing.

Another amazing aspect of Louisiana.
Mosquitoes, humidity, public education, rampant crime….
Louisiana fricking sucks.

I’ve spent 40 years within 5 miles of the MS River and I’ve never seen so many mosquitoes in my life as we have around our house in the hills.

I inhaled a mosquito while playing golf a few days ago. Made me gag and almost puke. I'm not normally a mouth breather but my sinuses are fubar right now. I've never seen them this bad

Guess you’ve never been down south
You've obviously never been up there! I graduated LSU in 91. Lived in South Stadium my freshman year, the Pentagon. No A/C in either dorm. Had to keep the windows open and the fan running full time. Screens on the window were sketchy at best. Yeah, I know what bugs in Louisiana and throughout the rest of the south are like.
West Yellowstone, MT looks like it has a dark thunderhead approaching and you think it's about to cut loose with the rain. Then you find out that cloud is a lot closer than you think, and it's mosquitos. The cold obviously didn't kill 'em.

Some dragonflies have "hawk" in their common names.
The Blue-faced Meadowhawk:
The Eastern Pondhawk:

My dad called them snake doctors. Not sure why.

That's what we called them. That, or just dragonflies.

Saw my first carpenter bee for the year today

Hell my trap on shed probably has 7-8 in it already.
But as far as mosquitoes, I’ve been fogging the yard. Not very effective. They are as bad as in the marsh. Glad we don’t have gnats too.

In Lafayette, we had zero mosquitos all of last year and through the fall and winter. I guess they're just making up for it.

Most of the ones around my house are crane flies.
