Serious question: is there wording in the treaty to that effect?

Meaning, if the USSR/Russia attacks you without provocation, we all jump in together for defense; but if you actively go out of your way to engage them, you're on your own?

IMO, France would essentially forfeit "Article 5" protection if they send troops into a country that's actively at war.

Let's be realistic: France is talking about sending troops to western Ukraine, away from front-line activity. It's likely in response to the Transnistria stuff.

And no, if French troops are in Ukraine and they get hit ... it shouldn't be a NATO response, IMO.
