Or possibly the Bucks '24 pick we have would have done it
Only problem is we don’t have the pick. It’s a swap, so it’s worthless. And we don’t have it next year if it falls outside the top 4. Which is almost 100% likely.
We only have the ‘27 pick, which might be something if Giannis is off the team. So no way can we trade that. The Jrue trade looks very bad right now considering the other first went for Steven Adams.

Yes, Mavs gave that future swap to get that 1st because they'd spent so many firsts and swaps on marginal upgrades over the years. I would've have liked Gafford, too. But it's not some no-brainer missed opportunity.
Presti GM of OKC is considered a really smart GM. They have a need at Center for rebounding next to or backing up Chet. Why didn't they just use one of their many picks and salary to get Gafford? Is Presti and every GM a dummy for passing that up?
Now Pels still have this '24 first to potentially add to a bigger trade for an upgrade this offseason (Allen, Turner, Okongwu, etc.) or they can use the pick to get a cheap Center or PG prospect with upside, who could be better than Gafford in the future, or even have a Kessler or Lively immediate impact-- Clingan, Missi, Filipowski, Ivisic, Edey, Oso Ighodaro, I. Collier. Maybe even trade up for Sarr...

quote:So a player is not any good unless Presti decides they are? That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard. All teams should have the same needs and surrounding cast I guess. The 24 draft picks are not highly sought after it appears given the lack of value applied in recent trades.
