Wasn't mocking it at all. It was a decent attempt at a Japanese compact fighter and indeed did sell well.
I had a friend that drove on in high school in one of my favorite Ford colors of the era (at least the name) Anti-Establish Mint
I remember seeing one flash by and saying "Is that a mustang". No, just a maverick.
I also remember seeing them with slicks on the back, traction bars and built small blocks in them. One of my first cars that I bought with my own money was a Late 70's Chevy Monza hatchback. Had a built 327 in it and that thing would fly. Unfortunately, somebody wrecked it and I did not get to enjoy it long

I like the trucks. A friend of mine bought one. He has two small kids so it works great for them. He doesn't do hunting or much offloading so the bed works great for him.

I had one of those and it would fly. It was a fun car, but had a bit of a design flaw. The Chevy Service Manager told me to get rid of it because the engine was too much for the frame and was slowly shaking it apart. But I had a lot of fun in it for 3 years.

Yea, I loved mine for the short time I had it but it was not big enough for a V8. The guy that built that car did it right too. Was a awesome looking ride. I wish I had pics of it still. Was red like the one in the picture... 5 speed manual.

I have a Ford Maverick and I love it. No hybrid for me. Turbo charged gasoline. I got the XLT with the luxury package and the blind spot indicator system. I drove off the lot for $27,500 including tax, title and license. You cannot find that now.
Those are two different types of vehicles. The Mavericks weren’t built to pull much weight plus they are unibodies. It’s basically a Bronco Sport with a truck bed.

Well when a the price of a small truck is the same as a full sized truck 10 years ago. And economies of scale have not changed that much in relation to car payments, people are going to go with a cheaper truck because they can still only afford X per month.
Nobody with the right financial sense, unless you are baller rich, is wanting to plop a grand a month in car payments. Then add increased insurance costs and higher interest rates. People are going to go with the cheaper but smaller option.

I paid 32k for a XLT F150 in 2017. It's wild how expensive trucks have gotten.

I knew a guy back in high school that had a gold Maverick with three on the tree. A real piece of shite.

My wife wanted one of the new Mavericks. Thought it was "cute". The wait was too long. Thankfully she decided to get the Mazda CX-30. So far that has been a great car for her.

Baws need to have SUPER DUTY embossed into their trucks in 73 different places. The Maverick doesn’t have that.

Looks like it came off the Ford Fairmount my family had in the 80s.

That same truck was $57 in 2021.
It’s unsustainable.

Was that the actual name from Ford? If so, that’s fantastic.

People seem to be mad ford made an affordable compact truck that is popular and gets good gas mileage.

So the Maverick is classified as a compact truck, interesting as it looks like a mid sized at first glance
It’s the same length as the old rangers.
I’m glad companies are making vehickes like this instead of having to settle for the cookie cutter suv.

truck that sells for $20k should not be compared to a truck that sales for $35k.
It absolutely depends on the commentary being made
“This lower model pickup style vehicle has become popular in the scale of a household name” is totally fair for a quick article about it being an increasingly common choice
