Honestly there is probably a lot of very lucrative work in Texas, Oklahoma, and south Louisiana for welders and fabricators
A good mobile diesel mechanic could make as much as he wanted around here.

Trying to get my son to look into more hands on trades as well. I know welders that make $150K or more. BIL did underwater welding here in NOLA for many years, made absolute bank, took the money up north and retired.
Keep in mind that most public school systems will train him for essentially free. Vocational/tech schools at the high school level are vastly underrated. Kids who take it seriously can come out of high school with immediately marketable skills, get a decent job, and have the company pay for their continued training/education.
We, as a country, have severely neglected our trade schools ar that level.

The wealthiest guys I know are plumbers and welders. I’m sitting in a cubicle eating wheat thins while they’re taking their ole ladies to Texas Roadhouse and Destin.
As much as there is a demand for blue collar labor, that's a young man's game. Being on your feet all day working with your hands for 50+ hours week is not sustainable once you hit your mid 40s.

Underrated most dangerous job in the world. Those giant catfish around the bottom of local lock and dams ain’t no joke.

If by free you mean tens of thousands for hormone therapy and gender reassignment surgery then yea it’s free.

Yup. My FIL hasn’t figured out a way or doesn’t want to transition his business and now his body is falling apart while he continues to grind
On a separate note, I work in tech. Tons of great people looking right now. Bottom line as much as AI is a story, half of these jobs or more never should have existed. They were created by private equity or over hiring in response to the pandemic and in some cases false market demand that was never going to keep up.
I have dealt with several groups explaining to me why they made cuts that were completely obvious from the outside.
Sucks for the people

No kid with a nose ring or blue hair would be allowed in my shop

Elon Musk was ahead of the curve. Everyone else in tech is just following his lead

Might be a bloodbath in the near future.

Remember when the metaverse was the thing big tech was going all in on?

It's kind of nice to see tech have to bend the knee a little after they became the newest "my job is untouchable and the future" fart sniffers.
