The #Falcons have requested to interview #LSU co-offensive coordinator Cortez Hankton for their vacant OC job under Raheem Morris, sources say. He helped develop Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas, two potential 1st round picks.
Thought we were out of the woods

Hankton won’t last forever at LSU, but feels like a weird move to hire a college Co-OC without play calling experience to an NFL OC position under a defensive head coach.

If this isn’t just to satisfy the pandering Rooney Rule Atlanta might be on a quest to put together the worst staff in the NFL. He’s never been a play caller at any level or an NFL coach. So hiring him to be OC seems like a good decision

Seemingly every reporter instantly stated Zac Robinson would likely follow Morris to ATL, that still seem like the mostly likely thing to happen
Rooney rule extends to coordinators as well.
ETA but I would expect him to get a job like this eventually. Might be this cycle, more likely next. Need to keep a list ready for a replacement either way.

It never ends. Can’t we just enjoy a complete coaching staff for one fricking week?!!!!

feels like a weird move

Pigeons will likely bring in former Rams coach to be the OC. Not sure if he would leave to be a position coach in the NFL

Good for him. If he takes it go get Adam Henry.

Yes, I think this is going to happen. Doesn't mean they won't like what they hear in Hankton and offer him an offensive coach position.

What are we paying Hankton now with his new deal?
Edit: Google thinks it's around $900K. But might be more now with his Co-OC bump.

Damn! When CBK hears the phone ring, does he say..."Good Lord, who's leaving now???"

We’ve taken a lot more than we’ve been taken this off-season. Other coaches would be stressing even more so if they see a 225 number pop up on the caller ID
Y’all are being dramatic here hanktons NFL goals are pretty well established. He had interest there when we grabbed him. It’ll happen eventually. Part of the reason I think we waited so long to announce the staff was to try to wait out the NFL staff changes. And the Co-OC title was likely very important to Hankton bc that will get you interviews and chances over being a pure positional coach, even if you aren’t calling plays
Coaching and player turnover happens every year. This isn’t a new phenomenon. It’s been this way for a decade and a half since the SEC and NCAA became a complete arms race for facilities, staffs, shadow staffs, etc. the only staffs that aren’t getting poached or people aren’t trying to poach are the ones that can’t win games. It’s a good problem to have. Take a breath.

Luckily Woodward can bring in Jimbo as Co-OC.

No way the falcons hire a guy who's never called plays before

To be fair, most of the hot OC candidates, including the falcons likely hire Zac Robinson, have also never called plays

Falcons aren’t interviewing if there is not mutual interest
If hankton wants in the nfl then he likely goes
