Does this align with being pro-life? Louisiana refuses summer meal assistance for kids
Is it your impression that Louisiana kids' lives are at risk d/t starvation?
Keep in mind, LA's childhood obesity rate is ~25% higher than the national average. Meanwhile, Louisiana continues to participate in existing USDA Summer Food Services Programs, right?

Gotcha. Government usually starts with “good” intentions and it quickly goes to shite every single time.

Hungry kids would be skinny. You seen one around this state I’m the last ten years?

By your logic, we should support them their entire lives, including future generations that they produce. It appears we are already doing that.
My “logic” is that we each have a duty to help our fellow humans who need help.

And who are these people wanting abortions, but unable to get them? State borders are not some invisible barrier that people are unable to cross.
If you’re encouraging women who want abortions to travel to another state to get an abortion, why even make it illegal here?

I don't believe that for one second...

Then use your time and money to do that.
But thats not what you want

Yeah...seems to completely defeat the purpose
All you're doing at that point is making them incur travel expenses

No it isn't my duty. My only duty is to my household.
Now we do sponsor an anonymous child for Christmas, I'll occasionally through a few hundred to help a family, whatever.
But the second you tell me I have a duty to do something, I'll find a way to not do it.

Literally no one here thinks you created the eligibility criteria so there is no need to keep repeating that statement.
Because people keep asking me to justify the eligibility criteria.

What has been asked and you refuse to answer is "Why?" As in, if the family income is not low enough to meet free/reduced lunch eligibility during the school year, why would there be any need to supplement their food in the summer?
You’re asking me to justify the eligibility criteria.

In Louisiana, families got $40 to cover “all summer.”
Yes, but the program that you are complaining about Louisiana not participating in is $40 per month, per your original post. So yes, ALL summer.
quote:
Low-income families in participating states will receive $40 each month for each eligible school-aged child, up to $120, to buy groceries beginning in the summer of 2024.

I help people I think deserve helping. She doesnt want to to that. She wants the government to do her good deeds using someone elses tax dollars.
In her opinion, if you do your charity in private, youre not as good as the person who uses government to do their charity.

Is this your advice to pregnant women who are considering abortion? Don’t get pregnant?

Most of the people I see using LA Purchase cards at the grocery checkouts don’t look like they’ve missed a meal or dessert in their lives. And often they load their groceries into a more expensive vehicle than me

As in, if the family income is not low enough to meet free/reduced lunch eligibility during the school year, why would there be any need to supplement their food in the summer? They already got free meals all year that they didn't "need" so they should already have extra funds for summer food, right? Bonus food all school year AND bonus food in the summer, for families you admit are middle class?
Because she doesn't care. She thought this was a slam dunk to own us conservatives not realizing she didn't know what she was talking about. Notice she was running with the idea that this program was for children who got free/reduced lunch but didn't qualify for SNAP benefits. SNAP is a supplement btw, it's not and has never been intended to be a families sole food budget, until I pointed out the absurdly low criteria of 25% of the school getting free/reduced lunch means everyone gets this money.

No I am not.
I am asking YOU SPECIFICALLY why you are bent out of shape about Louisiana not providing middle income children with food all summer?
I understand the criteria, I am not asking you to justify that. The question is why you think the state is wrong here and should give $40/month per child to middle class families? I would like to hear your reasoning.
