quote:Nah. I read Saban’s book after the championship.
But dinardo showed saban that you could win.
He says that when he was coaching with the Browns, he read a report on what states produced the most NFL players and he was shocked and amazed that Louisiana was #4 behind California, Texas and Florida. So when he was offered the job here, he realized that if he just locked down the in-state talent, he could build a powerhouse.

He was the foundation upon which all modern-day NC's are built. Don't give me that shite about Miles doing it on his own in 2007. That's simply bullshite.

Hate Saban or Love him - LSU success with him and since is bc of him.

Give the man his due for the impact and direction setting he put in place at LSU. The program would never have ascended to the level it did and has without him.
Looking in the mirror and being honest, LSU fans are only mad at Saban for his leaving and in seeing what could have possibly been if he had stayed.

If you were around the program back then, the transformation was clear. It was like going from a mom and pop shop to a global brand. The LSU administration didn’t even know what a championship football program was supposed to look like. Saban showed them.
There’s no need to revise history on this.

Here’s how it went down and I know from folks who were involved
LSU had been a graveyard. All the talent in the world in state but they left every year. Our football program simply did not take it seriously.
@1994 lsu decided to get serious and work on the program without concern for money. Dinardo was first step and he was good about keeping players in state. They thought that was all that was needed. It wasn’t.
They needed more. They needed infrastructure, recruiting, and more staff.
They searched for a new coach and found Saban who was at mich state and wanted bigger things. LSU approached him and he came in for a look. He told them that he’d take the job but massive changes were needed in addition to a massive staff he wanted to bring in. LSU said whatever you want.
He took the job and reformed the entire program. A lot of what he did is still in place.
The big differences are in the AD which changed after Saban and new presidents.
Saban did a lot of the same things at Bama.
Saban is the reason why we started winning again.
It’s not debatable and folks who were around at the time will tell you how different things were before he got to lsu.

Yes!!!! I've been a fan since the late 70s. Mindset changed completely after he got here

I don’t even think it’s that. Most of understood why he wanted to go to the NFL and most didn’t begrudge it.
I also think he would be looked at more fondly if, when he came back to CFB, he returned to a different school in a different conference.
If he did what he did at Michigan, Ohio State, FSU or something we’d look at him a lot different.
But he came back to Bama and we had to face him every year and he was a direct obstacle to LSUs success. That’s really the issue. Not that he returned to college and was the GOAT

Nice OP. I agree with your general sentiment however Saban was a major part of the cultural shift, complacency to winning, at LSU football. The cultural shift may have started with Mark Emmert and the influential people around him like Skip and Emmert's ability to convince the BoS that a winning CFB program at LSU pays large financial dividends so invest in it, but Saban was that confirmation. Without Saban and winning a NC in 2003 the confirmation and confidence gained from winning a NC, that LSU can be at the top of hill in CFB may have taken a serious hit. Since then the expectation of LSU football success by the fans, administration and BoS has been tops in the nation. IMO Saban deserves a lot of credit from LSU fans for confirming that LSU football can be a national championship brand.

quote:please explain this...which Dinardo players helped saban win a title in 2003? Could only be a very small handful of red shirt seniors.
DiNardo brought in Faulk and a host of players that ended up winning a NC under Saban.

Agreed. What is a shame is that Bob Brodhead had these same visions almost 20 years earlier and could not get past the LSU political machine. Man was not without his faults but a lot of the things that came to pass later were similar to his ideas.

That was the freshman class of 95, they could’ve redshirted 3 times and still not been on the 03 roster. The OP is clearly just making stuff up.
