Pissing away a ton of money
Pissing off relatives to come see the idiot dance
And the kid will be bald when she is 25 from the stupid hair styles

I never thought of it as similar to being on a sports team that actually makes some sense
I’m glad I have boys I’d rather spend all my time and money watching my kid plays basketball rather than be stuck at a dance competition with screaming little girls everywhere

My niece did it her whole life. Basically it was just the girls that didn’t play sports. Gave them something to compete for and an activity to do after school. You are over thinking this.

Nothing more embarrassing than getting a technical foul bc of your dad

To get the sticker on the back of the SUV, and show off at work.

What’s the end goal for parents who put their kids into competitive dance?

I know a family that pulled their kid out of school and started homeschooling them for dance.
I asked the dad, a friend, the same question. He said “I don’t know”

Good question. Daughter currently takes 3 dance classes a week (ballet, jazz, tap). She loves it and if we let her she would be on the “competitive team”. I don’t see the point in dragging our family across the south for someone who can’t read yet so that they can dance for 6 minutes a weekend.
The only upside that young is that the better teachers are normally with the “team” classes so that could play dividends down the road.
The end goal is just like any of the travel sports is so that the parents can live through their kids.

I have two daughters, and one has been dancing now for 14 years, and the other 11 years. It's what I know, and I don't mind it.
I don't understand all the technical aspects of it, and I never will, but I will always be there to support them, because that is what they will remember most.
It is my hope that their future husbands will do the same for their children, because it does matter.

it can potentially be a money ploy by the dance company
Most of the dance companies charge a lot of money and they want a real commitment.
Ive got several friends and relatives who have/had daughters in dance. One had a daughter that won junior miss (or whatever they are calling it now). But all of them say it was very expensive, time consuming, and they hate it.
When i was a young, i knew some girls that were dancers. One became a dancer at disneyworld when we were still kids, but she was incredible at that irish step dancing stuff. Some of the other ones went to work on the pole.

So the kid will be competitive and dance.

How about a wrestling tournament? All of them are crying. And the parents are pissed because the kids are crying. Kinda hilarious if you can bear the sound of it.

They have a desire to spend 6 hours of their Saturday watching costume changes... then another 3 hours watching the awards be handed out for those costume changes.
