I know the drought stressed the deer population and assume that has something to do with the delayed rut this year... but beyond that nobody I talk to is even seeing deer in this area.

We are seeing very few in NW Amite county.

Oddly, the antlers on the bucks that have been taken and seen on camera in our area of central MS are the best I’ve seen in more than a dozen years of hunting up there. Some theorize the very wet early Spring had a lot of healthy browse available during antler development. I like to attribute the 2000# of protein and last year’s robust food plots for some of it too.
When I first put out my cameras in mid-September, a lot of the does had their ribs showing. Their acorn and corn diet has since fattened them up, but the number of 150 class deer harvested is like nothing my cousin remembers seeing in the 25 years he’s owned the place.

Basketball done, I was the only car at the WMA spot on the last Saturday of rifle. Kinda wet and gloomy but that's perfect for me. Climbed up a big oak really slow, at a pinch point I think. New spot, let's go. I can barely see the Duck River, different spot than yesterday a lot farther in. Doe please.

Three of us in the woods and all saw deer this morning. No bucks

I bailed out at 9 to take my son to a birthday party (I'm thankful my kids' birthdays are not during the rut). Didn't see anything in the woods. A fresh deer road kill was on the side of the road on my way back home. Those deer waving at me from the side of the road as I got out of city limits this morning didn't get the last laugh afterall.
I'm going to try again tonight, but I've been absolutely skunked lately. I'm pretty sure the deer herd has moved to town this season to avoid the hunters.

Area 2 - Black Bayou NWR
Makeshift ground blind
Mathews V3X
Set up on a rub and scrape line in some really thick stuff along a narrow creek. Plenty of fresh tracks. Hoping to see something.
Right after getting set up, 2 guys in Orange walked through loud as can be talking and coughing. I’m pretty deep in, but it is what it is. No problem with squirrel or duck hunters. But could these 2 at least be less noisy? It wasn’t a surprise they were empty handed.

I could use some company to push some deer up and back toward me. No movement. I still haven't solved post rut. Still hours to go though.

Didn’t get the hookin bull but a nice tall 9 pernt fell to the 270 this morning. Imgur won’t load the photo but I’ll keep trying.
Back out with the Canon 35mm this evening.

Never gonna give it up unless freezer is full or wife starts cracking down. She's been patient with me this season and on kid watching duty.
I'm in a shooting house on a food plot that my 3-year old picked out as my hunting spot this afternoon. If I get a deer on the ground, I'll just start going to him for all my deer hunting decisions.
The dead deer on the side of the road from earlier was gone when I passed by there again. Either someone picked it up or the deer woke up from the dead. Seeing a zombie deer tonight would be my luck.

Unfortunately don’t think I’ll be getting much neck meat from this one. Watched him for about 10 minutes mosey through some thickets. Finally he stepped into an opening and was about to leave but stopped facing away from me.

Tippah County MS
43 and no wind or very little at least.
5.56 AR with thermal
Box blind
I’m on predator patrol tonight.
Had a deer run out of the plot when I was driving in a couple of hours ago. Change batteries in a couple of cameras and looked for arrow head for a while before making my way to the box.
