if Kelly and House knew preseason that the defense was going to suck and that they would have severe scheme limitations due to that, it's hard for Kelly to then blame House. Now, he could fire him anyway for sure. But if he truly believes it was personnel, then that would have to be fixed regardless of the coaching.
The problem here is the complete lack of changes made. At some point in time between the two of them, realize that your second level is a liability regardless if there are 4 or 6 people back there. At least give the QB hell in the process of exposing our weak coverage and open field tackling.

This cannot be repeated enough. House will not be employed by LSU next season and we will not be paying a buyout. He is “leaving” to go back to the NFL.

I’m not really disagreeing with your point. But Kelly’s preseason assessment that we had personnel issues doesn’t absolve him or House on how things played out. I didn’t see much in the way of changes being made from game to game, from personnel to scheme. You can hope for better players, but you will always have to work around deficiencies there. It’s concerning there was a lack of progress there.

I'm not absolving anyone of anything. If it were up to me, House would be fired. My point is that we don't know what goes on internally in meetings and what their expectations and/or solutions were going in.

House gets his money anyway
If Kelly does him a solid and allows him to find an NFL LB job, he gets whatever his new team pays him. From there, LSU owes House the difference between his LSU DC pay and the pay from his new NFL team.
House Contract
Plus, has to use “best efforts” to find a new job if fired. If he doesn’t go find an NFL LB job on his own, LSU has the right to deduxxt from the buyout, what an average NFL LB coach makes anyway.
There is no $ downside for House to save face by returning to the NFL.
ETA: if House is fired effective January 15, he’s owed a maximum of 90% of $3.2 million. Which is $2.88 million total. It’s paid monthly over a two year period, which makes it exactly $120,000 per month.
Again, that’s a maximum- it doesn’t account for the offset from his NFL money next year.
So House can probably be fired for less than $100k per month once he finds a new job after Black Monday.

And my point is if Kelly’s expectation of the defense was in line with results, we may have bigger problems than House or personnel for that matter. Our defense was unacceptable this season.

Not if he leaves on his own. If he is forced out, then yes.
That's what they're saying. He's not going to just leave on his own, he's going to be nudged out. He can fight for the buyout, but honestly, it could cost him more in the long run than he can recoup. The coaching carousel is a weird thing and the perception of willingly leaving LSU to go back to the NFL is better than being let go as DC of LSU.

It is hard for me to believe that Dominic McKinley would commit without him and his parents knowing who his position coach is going to be. It just means to me there had to be some conversation about who that person is going to be if it wasn't going to be Lindsey and I haven't heard anyone say they think he is returning as the full-time Dline coach. But like everything else, it is just speculation.

If House takes an NFL job without being fired from LSU, he's not getting another cent from LSU.
This is one of the dumber things I've heard on here and that's saying a lot.

That’s an awfully definitive statement from someone who clearly didnt read the contract linked right there in the post.
HINT: the answer your looking for is on pages 1 and 20 of the 21 page document in the link.
ETA - mix in the bottom of page 11/top of page 12 also.

Those clauses only kick in if LSU fires him.
Coach telling him - wink, wink, it might be best if you looked elsewhere is not the same thing as being fired by the University.

LSU’s passing defense rank in Corey’s last 2 years here:
2020: 128th
2021: 80th
He then went to Florida and took over a passing defense that ranked 25th in the country the year before he got there. With Corey, Florida ranked:
2022: 84th
2023: 68th
Pass defense under Corey his last 4 years has been fricking garbage. It’s an average finish of 90th in the country. frick that
It affects these numbers when you are having to work under shitty head coaches and defensive coordinators.
quote:
Pass Defense rank under Corey Raymond his last 7 years at LSU
2021: 80th
2020: 128th
2019: 59th
2018: 38th
2017: 21st
2016: 23rd
2015: 66th
He only coached CBs during his last 5 years at LSU. But you are putting all of the passing defense solely on him? Seems logical.
I'm open to the best option out there. If you find someone who has recruited and coached more 1st/2nd round picks than CR, let's get that guy. CR recruited/coached 16 Tigers that got drafted (4 in the 1st round & 5 in the second round). He was not retained b/c BK saw there was a need to change the culture here. It is time to bring CR back home.

True. But in that situation it’s easy way/hard way
The easy way is Kelly is nice enough to wink-wink tell House find an NFL job. But House isn’t gonna give up the buyout out of the goodness of his heart. He has zero incentive to leave on his own without LSU terminating him without cause, and nobody with an ounce of brains would do so.
So instead House appears to leave on his own, but he’s actually fired so he gets his full buyout. Spares House the bad publicity, and makes it easier for Kelly to attract top candidates by treating outgoing assistants this way.
The hard way is House won’t go find an NFL gig. So Kelly feeds House to the Rant mob and unceremoniously fires him.
At that point House sits at home out of spite, claims entitlement to the full buyout, and LSU has to litigate the offset. It’s messy, takes longer and lacks certainty. Nobody wins here.

Kelly seems to like House and seems to believe our issues are more talent,
This narrative was blown up when we didn’t spy Milroe one time the whole game when the tape showed he extends plays with his legs.
Stop with the talent vs. coaching angle. Our defensive issues are coaching with a fraction being talent.

Not sure this is correct. If he leaves for the NFL, LSU does not owe him anything.
