Oddly enough, the car listed on the ticket must have been one that the trooper stopped previously because I was in a Toyota van and they have it down as a Dodge Challenger and the license plate listed is also incorrect. Is this enough to get off on a technicality?

Update: I went to trial today, spoke with the prosecutor and the ticket was dismissed for a "computer error."

If a Honda mini van was good enough for Marty Byrde, a Toyota van is good enough for us mortals.

No, but on a traffic ticket, the officer is highly unlikely to write up a report. So, the trick is going to be to not say shite, to anyone. Show up on your arraignment date. Again, say nothing to anyone, beyond pleading not guilty and getting your trial date.

Now that a couple of months have passed since your interaction with the officer, he's not going to remember you or your car from fricking Adam. Now talk to the prosecutor and say as little as possible. You're going to be tempted to be cute and clever. Don't. Just walk up and say that you believe this is a mistake because you weren't speeding and the ticket you were issued was for a vehicle you don't own and you have never driven.

Then shut. The. frick. Up.

Just stare at the prosecutor. Answer no questions about how fast you were driving that day, what you were driving, your interaction with the officer, etc. Nothing. The prosecutor will likely tell you to have a seat and they'll get back to you. They'll speak with the officer, who will have zero recollection of you, at all, because you haven't been a tit over the last couple of months.

Prosecutor will likely offer you a class. Tell them no, and nothing else.

They'll eventually cut you loose.

With one giant caveat: if you're on body worn camera, fleet video, etc, things get a lot more complicated

I'm not a car person. I really don't give a shite what gets me from point A to point B. You can be embarrassed all you want. I just don't care.

I’d rather pay the ticket than publicly admit to this

Unless he gave you the wrong copy and your copy is sitting in his unit. You should do the right thing and call. but you won’t so good luck!

If you do miss your court date just remember, the Marshalls will come for you at like 5am and you better hope it’s not on a Friday bc you’ll be in there till Tuesday

Go to your court date and point out the mistake to the DA before the trial. They will probably dismiss it or at least reduce it way down.

I'm probably just going to pay it. I was doing a legit 74 in a 55 so he was right to nab me. If it was an easy out, I would take it, of course, but since it would require me going back into Marshall County for a court date, I'd rather just mail them a check and be done with it.

Oof, don't do that. At least call them and ask them if it can be reduced to a non-moving violation if you pay it.
