WKRG

This one could be a mess. Police and swat were executing a predawn raid of a home following complaints of drug activity from neighbors. The guy they were looking for wasn’t even there at the time of the raid. Police say the 16 year old pointed a laser sighted pistol at police and at least one officer opened fire. They recovered marijuana and two weapons.

That's how it's supposed to work.

From your link, the only charge that has come of this is "Possession of Marijuana in the First Degree."

Are the risks of these raids really worth what they get out of them?

I think its nonsense that they do these SWAT raids for anything less than murderers or hostage situations. The police have so many resources that they can arrest these guys when they go to Walmart and search their homes then.

Thank God we put a dent in the marijuana trade last night. Pushing back against those drug dealers.

Do you really think they were doing a raid for simple marijuana possession???

They're practicing so when it comes time they can execute them on you.

You're right.

Plenty of issues for the more intelligent though.

That'll get you shot every time.

Dont see how. Unfortunate, yes. Will policy changes come from it? Maybe. But they had a warrant, announced themselves, walked into a house where they have video evidence that criminal activity has taken place, and are met with someone pointing a gun at them.

That’s my thought. I’m sure the usual “he fricked around and found out” crowd will flood this thread. But what led to them making a decision like this? Shouldn’t they have had better intelligence as to who was in the house?

If the kid pointed a gun at police then it was a good shoot. But was all that force really worth it for some weed?

That's the only charge so far according to the article. If you know more, please enlighten us.

Pre-Dawn raids for officer safety. Guy had a gun. He was asking for it.

Agreed. What I have a problem with is putting the cop in a position where he has to kill a teenager because he was defending himself.

Like you said, at the officer level, its a "good shoot." At the system level, no one had to die yesterday over pot possession.

Tragic

Yeah, pre-dawn raids are much safer than arresting people while they're in public.

I imagine a lot of the people that support this were actively cheering on the ATF/FBI at Waco.

It just makes absolutely no sense.

It's about one thing: showing who's in charge.

Another thing to point out was that the individual they were looking for turned himself in.

That was a mistake. Now they'll be trying to charge him with the murder of the teen.

What a stupid comment. By your logic, no one should be defending themselves in the early morning because it might be cops breaking down their door. Everyone in the south would grab their gun first after having their door broken down, none of them are "asking for it."

It's early. I'll be nice and let you in on the sarcasm.
