LSAT - Law School
Posted on 11/10/23 at 9:56 pm

I graduated from SLU in 1996 with a degree in Accounting. I mailed it in while there and graduated with a 2.6 GPA. My boss has been after me for years to go to law school so I finally took the LSAT today. It wasn’t as hard as I thought. I have no aspirations of getting into LSU Law or even Loyola Law. What are my chances of getting into Southern Law School with a 2.6 GPA from 1996 and what will likely turn out to be an average LSAT score.
They have an evening program that would take me 4 years. Be done by the time that I am 55.

For one my company will pay for it. Also, I figure it will set me up nice to be an in house counsel where I am at and somewhere else in the twilight of my career.

Google is your friend. You can plug in your GPA and LSAT score and there is a website that gives you your % to get into various schools.
With a 2.6 you may need a decent LSAT score but I think Southern is the last ranked law school in the country, so there is hope.

Becoming a lawyer at 55?
Hey man. I have lost 125 pounds. I feel better than I did when I was 35. I have a new lease in life and it’s never to late to reinvent yourself.

I thought about it too, half of my fraternity brothers are lawyers/judges/prosecutors, they all talked me off of that ledge

Did she take the house, kids, and make you sell your boat?

Wouldn't you be better off just getting some sorta correspondence degree or whatever?

I don’t want to practice law so to speak. I am pretty much in house counsel where I am now. I refer to outside counsel when needed. I wet nursed the two in house counsels that we had before until they left the company. I also handle mergers and acquisitions now.

I already have a degree. Southern is an accredited law school where you get a JD. Not looking to get an LLM.

I could see some practical application there but you being green sixteen with a brand new shiny law degree would still have to hire experienced attorneys for the fine print, remember this, there is no one in the entire world that knows more about the law than a 1L student

You’ll get into Southern.

You should try. I got into LSU with similar grades. It’s not that competitive.

Nope. Been married over 25 years. Maybe dealing with a little empty nest syndrome and looking for something else to do.

not to insult our attorneys on here but I think law school is the easiest of all post grad schools, I was a freshman when I met my college gf that was graduating and going to law school, I studied with her and her friends for the next three years and I'm pretty sure I could have passed the bar with them

I would love to go to LSU Law School. But I am not sure that I am willing to commit to the amount of studying that I would have to do to get through school there if I did get in. Southern will certainly be less demanding to say the least.

Call the admissions department and have a frank discussion about your situation as a non-traditional student and your GPA. Take an LSAT practice test to just see where your starting point is. Law school is good for non-traditional students because you don't need to be proficient and anything in particular except study skills.
I will say I can't imagine doing law school with a full-time job even in 4 years going year round. That said I didn't go to Southern so I have no idea how to view the curriculum intensity but there is a huge amount of reading in law school which just takes time unless you fake your way through.
