Good to hear, but LaBrie's voice isn't doing so well these days.

What happened with Mangini? I haven't seen a reason why they fired him.

Great news about Portnoy.
Did they fire Mangini or was it just a matter of Portnoy being available and wanting to come home? Mangini's comment takes a very high road about this:
“I understand Dream Theater’s decision to get Mike Portnoy back at this time,” said drummer Mike Mangini, who took over for Portnoy in 2010. “As was said from Day 1, my place was not to fill all the roles that Mike held in the band. I was to play the drums in order to help the band carry on. My main role of keeping our live show working tightly on a nightly basis was an intense and rewarding experience. Thankfully, I got to experience playing music with these iconic musicians, as well as some fun times laced with humor.”

Holy shite! How did I miss this? I guess when he played with Petrucci on his solo album and the LTE3 the wheels started turning.
I bet Mangini isn't too happy!

I suppose they didn't fire him, they just agreed to part company because Portnoy and Petrucci decided to get the band back together.

You mean from when they hired Mangini? That was a long time ago bro
Agree with others where while surprised, with all the Petrucci and Portnoy collabs recently and none of Portnoy's side projects really sticking - this was inevitable
Mangini was amazing technically, but Portnoy has some really great musical drum writing. I'm hoping this can re-energize their material as most has fallen flat to me over the past 3+ albums

Dream Theater is a much heavier band with Portnoy. He really brings the metal. Much respect to Mangini for his comments though. He has every right to be pretty bitter, and he very well may be, but publicly he is exuding a lot of class.

Agreed. The drumming was much more an integral part of the song with Portnoy.
No disrespect to Mangini, but he's just kinda utilitarian while Portnoy is a Peart-ian percussion master...
