Exactly. Yeah, that's why Ray Montgomery, Angels bench coach, is a candidate for the Astros job, one of the prime jobs in baseball.
Obviously, Bagwell doesn't want Espada or he'd already be hired. Instead, lets interview the bench coach of a dumpster fire team.
Bagwell's Astros.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I had no clue Ron Washington was from New Orleans. That's hilarious.

Yep. Just inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame this past summer.

Chandy writes Dana downplayed the home woes. Says it was a fluke & aberration. The players starting talking about it and then the mental game took over.
Also writes that there's interest in bringing Lump back as the backup to mentor Yainer as someone who already has intimate knowledge of working with these pitchers.
I want no part of him. I don't want his presence hovering over Yainer. I want a clean slate where Yainer knows he's the guy and there's not this Maldy/JV, Maldy/Framber dynamic looming

Bagwell looking for another Jimy Williams hire.

Would be a tough pill to swallow if Bauer was on the team. Have despised that dude ever since the SI expose from years back where he couldn't stop blowing himself for being so much smarter than everyone else.
At the same time, I'd like to win again.

Crane is scared to embrace the villian role. Alyson Footer would be beside herself

Might as well steer into it at this point. The whining has never stopped anyway, so maybe it's time to stoke the flames.

You're right, and it's a shame, b/c he would be damn near the perfect fit for this role, had he not been misused and overused this past season by a moron

As long as Maldy is fine catching 50 or so games a year I am fine with bringing him back. I haven’t seen him say or do anything that indicates he thinks he’s above that. His presence is a Dusty created work of fiction but he can still impart some veteran knowledge on Diaz. Unless we want to pay for Garver as a backup/DH option (spoiler: we don’t) the backup catcher market is predictably brutal

i don't buy maldy taking a step back.
He has never seen a plate that he will walk away from

I actually forgot about him getting pissed at the media last spring training for asking about him accepting a backup role. So I retract my earlier statement. Sign Austin Hedges who has the same skill set and more self awareness

he is the most overrated player in Houston sports history
FODB playing him at home was one of the most inexcusable decisions ive seen a coach make.

Yes and to add to that, he wasn’t exactly gracious during that Sun Night Baseball interview on one of the rare nights he wasn’t playing. Talking about Diaz “He’s learning.” EL OH frickING EL.
I don’t want any semblance of him left on the roster. Not to mention, I think we’ve all been discussing it in terms of him making a start once a week. We need to think of it as “we’re one Diaz injury away from this fricker being our everyday catcher again.”

That’s going to be the case with any backup catcher we sign though. They’re all fricking terrible. There’s like 15-20 plus hitting catchers who can play average defense in pro baseball.

Fair enough. I guess I’ve just had it with Maldonado and his cult following. Not to mention, surely we could get someone who calls a better game than he does.
Tom Murphy from the Mariners could be an intriguing name.
