What kind of wireless guitar transmitter do you use or recommend?

A gazillion on Amazon of course.

Also be cool if one could feed into headphones or earbuds and with added effect options.

I don't know if the technology has become ridiculously better AND ridiculously cheaper simultaneously, but for many, many years price was a very accurate overall quality gauge, including the build quality of the encasing and the bulletproof-ness of the plugs and jacks. That being said, I would not trust ANY wireless system that streets for under $100 new.
I had a Shure PGX4 series wireless in my last band. I think I paid $299 for it. And gigging three nights a week for a couple years, I never had one problem with dropouts, excessive noise, battery life, cable and antenna durability, you name it. If I had to buy another wireless fast, with zero research - I'd get the current gen Shure PGX system.
Here's one exacly like the one I had for $149 used.
If I was actually going to research wireless systems, I've heard from numerous clients and friends that both Line 6 and Boss have guitar wireless systems that are incredible for the asking prices as well.

Wow some great info! After rethinking it, I actually had in mind two scenarios, 1) for real deal, live play, which sounds like you’ve covered well, and 2) fart around/practice at home, closer proximity, doesn’t have to be live or die just reasonably reliable.

Fiddlerman Wireless. Don’t remember how I found them, but they cater to fiddle players, but their system works for all electric instruments and has a tone control to keep away the tone suck that happens with cheaper systems. They are $125 on their site and sometimes you can get an extra discount. Ended paying about $110 for mine and it’s great.

I bought an XVive U2 system a few years ago and wasn't happy with it - couldn't seem to get a clean, reliable sound, even at close distances. May well have been due to interference in my house, but the couple of times I tried it at a band practice I still had the occasional dropouts. It may have been that I got a bad pair, because most Amazon users seem to like them.
Earlier this year I decided I wanted to give the technology another shot, so after a good bit of research I went with a LEKATO WS-90 5.8 Ghz system. It's performed flawlessly for me, both in practice and at live gigs. Unlike a few reviewers, I haven't noticed any significant tonal changes, and haven't had any dropout problems. Definitely recommend it.

Had a Legato like that and sold it to a guitar player. For dropouts and signal, they work fine. But on bass, there was a noticeable tone suck. Wasn’t nearly as noticeable on guitar.

And hell, for 60 bucks........carry a conventional chord at all times in case of a failure and you're good to go.
