Should JJ Have Let Skenes Get The Last Out?

The place would have erupted if he came in

He protected his arm and future. It made no sense being up by 14.

That would be like stealing a base when you're winning by double digits. Only Florida does that.

ESPN desperately wanted him in the game at some point but common sense prevailed
There was no need to throw him with that big of a lead
ESPN got their mega matchup with Lowder and Skenes and it delivered

No, and I commend him for that. They rode Skenes super hard, but it was always because they needed him.
There was no reason to put him in other than for some emotional closure. Not worth the risk of injury or anything else that might come with it.

It was a good decision not to run him out there.
A. The risk of injury is always present
B. Sort of an insult to a fellow SEC school. Tight game then absolutely. Blowout, no.

As much as I wanted to hear the crowd go nuts, the announcers have fun with it, and see him make UF hitters look silly at 98-100 (they had huge problems with Hurd at 94-96)...it was the right call.
Can't wait to see him pitch at the next level. He is going to continue to be a GREAT ambassador for LSU.

Damn, beat me to it. This!

It would have cheapened his appearance.

No. It’s nice to point out we beat Florida without Skenes throwing a pitch.

Everyone but some LSU fans would have ripped Johnson apart for putting Skenes in a game on 3 days rest if we were up by 10-14 runs (8th/9th). IT would be totally pointless and a completely unnecessary risk.
Jay is here to win games and look after his players and balance that. He's not going to unnecessarily risk a guy in a game thats been long decided.
If it was a 3 or 4 run lead, it's a different story and very justifiable to go to your ace on short rest in a winner take all game.

Putting him in would have been all the media would have talked about post game.
Instead of the champion Tigers, the headlines would have been that LSU puts their star pitchers at needless risks.

Then who would have piggy backed Milazzo out onto the field?
It was a great decision to leave freshman Guidry in there for the final out, the final moment!! It’s a selling point to new kids coming in.
Everything Jay does has a purpose!!

Skenes is gone. Guidry is a future star. Let that moment go to a current player if situation allows.

As much as I wanted to see him come in to watch him pitch one more time in a Tigers jersey, imagine the melt on this page if he tossed a 100 MPH strikeout and his arm went limp. Literally everyone would be calling for his head for putting Skenes in that position.

It takes a lot more than just showing up to the rubber. He would have had to go through his whole throwing preparation in the bullpen. He did his stretching portion but never got to the throwing portion because there was no need. JJ wasn’t going to even let him soft toss until lead was down to 5-6. No need for extra stress on his arm/body.
