Wasn't the New Riders Of The Purple Sage a Grateful Dead offshoot?

I recall hearing a Riders track I much preferred to anything by the Dead

I wouldn't say I prefer Down to Pantera but I listened to Nola just as much as any Pantera album. I would put them above Crowbar, COC, and EHG though.

I like Audioslave more than RATM too.

I prefer Albert Hammond Jr.’s solo works over the Strokes’ records.

Momentary Masters is a really solid album

Down's NOLA beats any single album by Pantera

for the early part of their career yes

john dawson
David Nelson (a Palo Alto scene alum with garcia and hunter)
Jerry on pedal steel for the first year & a half
revolving bassists including dead recording engineer bob matthews, hunter and Phil
Mickey hart first then Spencer Dryden on drums

NRPS was an in-house opening band for the dead until Jerry left, buddy cage took over the steel and they went out on their own in 1972.

if you like NRPS check out the owsley tapes recently released “dawn of the new riders”

Someone already mentioned Alter Bridge > Creed
Tremonti solo is also > Creed but not as good as AB

Ozzy > Black Sabbath (I know this is controversial but I much prefer Ozzy's guitarists)

Stone Sour > Slipknot
