I don’t expect us to stop hitting home runs or even want that. But we will have to produce runs in other ways if we want to be good teams IMO especially if we make it to the big ball park in Omaha.
What does that look like to you? LSU is 1st in conference play and 2nd in the country in OBP. They are 2nd in conference play and 14th in the country in BA. They are by far first in conference play and 4th in the country in runs scored. Where do you see an overdependence on HRs?

They are leaving too many runners on base is my only beef with this offense. Pitching, defense and Crews will determine how we finish though.

They are scoring more than 1 run/game more than second place in conference play. They are 4th in the country in scoring. Scoring runs is not a problem for this team. They’ve had games where they’ve struggled to drive in runs, but that’s not unique to this team.

If you lead the league in runs scored, you have to get men on base. Everyone on base will not score. Inevitably, you'll leave runners on base.

And despite ranking that high statistically, we’ve lost 4 of our last 7 SEC games. I’m evaluating what it’s going to take for us to win, not how we compare to other teams. Bottom line is our bullpen is trash and we will have to score 10+ runs a game. Is that fair to the offense, hell no, but it’s what it’s going to take.
My thought is anecdotal with some recency bias bc of how we won last night. What would be interesting to see would be the season stats broken into quarters and % of RBIs by HR. That would easily tell the story.
Probably should have phrased my OP as a question instead of a statement. Im not totally convinced that we are solely dependent on HRs, more of conversation topic.

1997 team says hello!! Ended pretty good for them!!

Yep. And if you take away Skenes, Crews, White, Travinski over the last several weeks, Dugas clutch at bats, Jones 14 homers, Morgan’s good plays, Hurd’s outing last night, Thompsons good plays and homers, Brady Neal’s Clutch at bats earlier this year, Blake Moneys success in midweek games, Bryce Collins emergence, and Stevenson’s catch against the wall at ole miss, we would really be like a .500 club

Not sure I follow your point. My question is as of late have we been relying on the long ball too much to score runs? It feels to me like that lately we are having less basehit rallies/2 out rallies, more groundball outs and too many stranded RISP. Mid season I thought we actually excelled at having a balanced offense but I’m concerned we’re losing balance in how we produce runs.
What say you?
What say you?

This team doesn't "rely" on the longball. They rely on their approach which often leads to hits, walks, HBP, and of course HRs. Terrible take.

Against McNeese we scored Crews on a Tommy White Double, stole home in a wild pitch, Milazzo grounded out to score Jobert from 3rd, Crews scored one in a single and White had a Sack Fly.

Exactly and it’s extremely annoying.

We are 2nd in the country in OB% we will leave guys on base because we get a ton of guys in baseX
The LOB numbers will always be terrible in loses, but law of averages favors getting guys on base.

Nothing you can do when all your best hitters are power hitters.
Kling
JT
Nip
Would be nice to have a mix but Who else do you really bunt?

Can you explain how we "rely" too much on the longball?

Bad thread title which is my bad.
Should have been “have we been relying on the long ball too much lately?” rather than a statement. I wanted to see what people thought.

I’d say no.
When we put up big numbers we score in homers, doubles, singles, all sorts of ways.
We do have power approached but you need that.
If you get 2 weak singles an inning you can have 18 hits in a game and no runs. You need to hit with some
Power.

They will if they get to Omaha. Probably will be a fast exit tbh even with a pitcher advantage. I do think LSU has the power to send the most HRs in Omaha though if we get lucky.
