Why do parents feel their kids are allowed to be loud in public?

Reading through the babies at restaurant thread, a disturbing amount of people took the attitude "yeah my kids are loud, fricking deal with it nerd".

I used to ride on planes often and without fail there'd be a child talking at max volume at 7 am while the parent didn't have a care in the world for others around them. Same thing with restaurants, theaters, or any place common decency is expected. I'd be mortified if my children were disrupting other people, but apparently some people don't have shame?

Common excuse is "kids are just loud, you can't control it" but you can control where you bring them. And if they start to go ballistic while you're out, do your job and discipline them and leave. Have some dignity.

ETA: Hurr durr you don't have kids is not an acceptable response. I was a child once and I wasn't a noisy piece of shite. Me not having kids has no bearing on people's willingness to let their own children run rampant and lack respect. Do better.

Are they yelling at you while going the speed limit in the left lane?

Also annoying is parents who allow their kids to roam free in restaurants and other public places.

Say you don't have kids without saying it.
There's still time to delete this post, OP

This is what’s wrong with society. Parents deny responsibility for their kids and then condemn anyone calling them out on it

It seems that poorly behaved children are the norm these days. My parents would have beaten me if I had acted that way and it would have been well deserved.

If my kid is being an a-hole in a restaurant, one of us takes him outside or we leave.

It’s different on a plane or similar situation where you can’t leave. I’ve got endless sympathy for parents who are trying, but I don’t expect peace on airplanes. The whole world experience generally sucks regardless of kids.

Actually the real epidemic is parents who believe their kids over adults not childless people like you being inconvenienced

The problem is definitely not with the kids, they are just kids, it is the parents…the younger generation of parents are too self absorbed and care more about themselves or their social media than proper parenting. Or just plopping the kid on a device so they don’t have to parent

My gripe on planes is parents seem to have lost all sense of polite volume. Most people talk a quietly on planes but we know kids don't naturally do this. They could easily say "hey sport, let's bring the volume down a bit" but instead they just let them talk nonstop as kids do about everything they see while everyone else is trying to exist in peace. It pierces the soul on a 7 am flight.

Crying babies I despise but understand that's beyond anyone's ability.

Because it’s “public”. If you want to control your environment, stay home.

My criticism of your view is limited to normal kid behavior and not obnoxious, uncontrolled delinquent kids.

Also you can’t lay hands on kids at all because parenting now is all about positive affirmation. It’s working great guys

Poorly behaved children are trashy. Trashy parents make trashy kids.

It actually is. By all measurable data, kids who are spanked have worse outcomes in terms of behavior and wellbeing. While ignoring kids, or allowing them to do whatever they want produces little monsters- consistent, conscientious, positive affirmation appears to work.

I threaten other people’s kids in public.

Key is to do quietly, with a sincere smile.

They don’t have the balls to call you out until they’re driving home. Usually.
