I like Goldwater and I'm not sure of this context, my belief is this quote is out of context for whatever political point you want to gaslight us on.

How and why is abortion specifically a "religous" issue? Are Christians demanding that the babies that they want to save be baptized and sent to Christian boarding school?

Or is your argument that people with a Christian, Biblical worldview would therefor believe it is right to protect innocent children, and to use the levers of government or the community to ensure children are protected?

All laws are created and passed based on the general morality of one's culture or society. That can be based on a Christian world view, an Islamic worldview, an Atheistic/humanist/secular worldview. But abortion isn't specifically a "religious" subject. Howwvee, one's views on the morality would certainly be affected by one's religion.

Barry Goldwater was a libertarian. He was not religious but he didn't care if you were. It's a free country....for now.

No kidding. Without any context, I assume this quote is directed at Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority more than any comment about abortion:

Goldwater would kick Falwell 'a little higher' this time….

In any event, anyone using Goldwater as an advocate for abortion on demand is not telling the full story. Goldwater was deeply conflicted on abortion and wavered on the issue later in his political career.

In the early 80s, Goldwater co-sponsored an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that aimed to give fetuses that reached a certain developmental stage a constitutional right to live. Goldwater also supported the Hyde amendment which prohibited any federal funds to be allocated to abortion providers.
