Yep, look at south west and south east La. Both have been severely damaged by hurricanes in the past few years. Big part of why people are leaving those areas.

Entire south from Texas to South Carolina experiencing a never before seen population boom, but yet Louisiana is being left out. Voting in morons, driving out industry, and rampant crime will do that. Sad to see it. Louisiana is battling Mississippi to not be be the worst state while Alabama is running circles around us.

I live in St Charles Parish...and it ain't the crime driving people out. It's Ida. There are still people in my neighborhood living out of trailers. Following Katrina, the population in SCP actually rose because people were looking for habitable homes while their storm damaged residences to the east were repaired. We were hit pretty hard by Ida, I figure we were about 8 miles from where the center passed. I get why no one wants to go through that shite again.

Mississippi has actually been making great strides. I wouldn’t be surprised if they rank ahead of us in most categories.

Of all the problems that Louisiana has, I'm convinced that #1 is Brain Drain

Brain Drain isn't a problem, it's a symptom.

TOPS is the problem no one wants to address. Smart kids gets their free education & leave. In addition to tightening up the requirements, there should be a post-graduation residency requirement or you have to pay it back.

I don't know what the fix should be. TOPS didn't exist when I started college, but I think the state subsidized tuition for all students back then. Southeastern was like $950/semester. LSU was around $1200.

. That’s accurate, but a lot of other states have those same problems and aren’t experiencing the level of brain drain. It’s almost like it’s a mindset. For example, Shreveport Facebook pages were always full of negative comments, even in a positive story. It’s like people have just quit.

Some of the insurance stories (home and auto) posted here are frightening.

That alone would probably deter me. Then add in crime, high taxes, terrible government, hurricaines, etc...

Yeah, I'll fly in for the food, fun and sports and let others try to fix that mess.

We just don't have the job market to support the number of college graduates that we pump out.

Add that to the fact that LA isn't a particularly desirable place for outsiders or businesses to relocate to.

Some people do fine here and have happy lives, but the state is natural disaster prone, poor/corrupt and has a fairly crappy climate and landscape.

Me and the kids moving back home were probably a lion's share of the +.01 to 2.49 for my rural home county.

One of the highest overall taxed states in the nation.
More government workers per capita than almost every state.
Voter apathy.

This state is garbage, honestly.
