Ukraine eyes an offensive around Bakhmut, as Russian momentum stalls

This after a story was posted here two days ago that Bakhmut had fallen and that 10,000 Ukrainians were trapped in the city.

Russian forces are depleted in Bakhmut and a Ukrainian counter-offensive could soon be launched, one of Kyiv’s top generals has said, raising the prospect of an unlikely turnaround in the besieged city.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, the commander of Ukraine’s land forces, said on his Telegram channel Thursday that “[Russians] are losing significant forces [in Bakhmut] and are running out of energy.”
“Very soon, we will take advantage of this opportunity, as we did in the past near Kyiv, Kharkiv, Balakliya and Kupyansk,” he said.
His comments come days after Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky made a surprise trip to the front lines of the Donetsk region, and will raise hopes in the West that Kyiv’s contentious decision to keep troops in Bakhmut will pay dividends.
quote:
The optimism of land forces commander Syrskyi reflected a Wednesday update from the the Ukrainian military’s General Staff, which said in a statement that while Bakhmut is still expected to see heavy fighting, Russia’s “offensive potential is decreasing” there.
“The enemy keeps trying to take the city, losing a significant amount of manpower, weapons and military equipment,” it said on Wednesday.
Western intelligence strikes a similar tone. “The tempo of Russian operations around Bakhmut appears to be slowing,” the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) think tank wrote in its Wednesday update on the conflict.
But that shift may also indicate a change in Russia’s priorities. “There is a realistic possibility that the Russian assault on the town is losing the limited momentum it had obtained, partially because some Russian MoD units have been reallocated to other sectors,” the British Ministry of Defence said Wednesday.

No one really knows what's going on in Ukraine, but in a war of attrition, the side with the most stuff/soldiers win. It's inevitable.

But jjGoebbells told us that Bakhmut had fallen?
What a liar!

None of these are valid, independent sources of information on this conflict.
The British MoD is especially bad. The Ukrainian government sources are actually more legitimate than the British.
But a planned offensive is coming, probably around May.

I don't believe either side.
I do know of a town in Belgium named Bastogne that was encircled by superior forces.

Here is the link to the CNN article he posted. Apparently the retarded OP was too embarrassed to link the article.

Wagner telegram channels have been discussing the buildup of ukrainians for a counter offensive for a few weeks now.
Wether it will happen or be effective, who the hell knows. But it is being reported by multiple sources.
Not sure why some posters here are allergic to knowing whats actually going on.

Not sure how this is going to work: there are no roads leading into Bakhmut that aren't either captured or under indirect fire from the Russians. The whole place is ranged by Russian artillery.
Meanwhile, while the Ukes throw 19 brigades at Bakhmut, the Russians are pinching off another salient at Avdiivka to the south.

Bakhmut is done. Only thing saving it is lack of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians being trapped there. Ukraine is considered sending 80,000 ground troops for their offensive. All while Russia is being in tanks by rail. Trench warfare with soldiers vs tanks and other armaments isn’t a very good situation for the young soldiers of Ukraine. That is the reality.
For the love of all that is Holy stop reading American media about the war. Use Google translate and visit some foreign news sites for better takes of what is really going on there. Russia has minimal ground soldiers in Ukraine. Ukrainian youth that are being called up are making it to the border and paying $5k to cross into other countries. Some are refusing to even be sent to the Donbas. Only thing that will turn this around from a slow grind of Russia destroying all of Ukraine is NATO/US boots on the ground.

remember how the Ukraine fanboys said Bakhmut didn't matter at all. that the Wagner penal regiment is wasting bodies for nothing.
now they are talking about Ukraine launching an massive offensive in Bakhmut. how embarrassing, a PMC that recruits mainly untrained prisoners needs this much military focus.
