What a weird hill to die on. You want a woman playing a grown up, married, 40 year old dad?
I feel like that wouldve been the worst casting decision ever.
ETA Id be willing to bet that Peter as a boy was played by a woman bc a grown woman would be able to work in a play with adult hours while looking like and having the same vocal range as a boy.
Simply out of necessity. Not just because it was played by a woman first.

This is exactly why the character was and continues to be played by a woman on the stage. Very rarely do you see a prepubescent boy leading a Broadway or West End production, so they have young women playing the role of Peter Pan. They are short, petite, lack body/facial hair and have a high voice - which are typically the traits you find in a 10-year-old boy.
