Lee vs. Stafford: The Comparison

These are purely statistics and is an arguement I bring up to Lee-Haters consistantly. Stafford, in my opinion, is the best QB in the SEC and runs a comparable offense to LSU and would be a fair comparison. Here are some stats from each Lee and Stafford's freshman seasons.
Stafford - True Freshman
- 4 losses - Kentucky, Florida, Vandy & Tennessee (unranked Vandy & Kentucky)
- 52.7% completions
- 134.5 yards per game
- 108.99 effeciency rating
- 7 TD & 13 INT (0.5 : 1 TD to INT Ratio)
* Georgia had the #8 ranked total defense in the NCAA
Lee - Redshirt Freshman
- 3 losses - Florida, Georgia & Alabama (all in the BCS top 10)
- 53.4% completions
- 178.7 yards per game
- 120.6 effeciency rating
- 13 TD & 14 INT (0.9 : 1 TD to INT Ratio)
* LSU has the #24 ranked total defense in the NCAA (Bama #4, UF #14 & UGA #28)
It should be noted that UGA had Lumpkin, Ware & Brown as a 3 man rotation at RB, with Lumpkin getting the bulk of the load. Ironically this is very similar to the current LSU RB system.
My point is that so many fans are up-in-arms about the QB situation when they should be patient. I believe most coaches try to have a great team every year, but realistically they should prepare themselves for a cycle of 3-4 year runs.
After the 2003 Championship we were left with Marcus Randall and redshirt-freshman JaMarcus Russell. And that season wasn't much better than this year.

compare Stafford to JR 3 year progression and see if Stafford is the person we really want Lee to evolve into.

funny thing is: stafford really isn't that good either...

Stafford will be the first QB taken if he goes into the draft this year.

Name a good SEC QB?
Don't give me some Big 12 QB when all of their defenses are terrible. And don't say that their defenses are terrible because the QBs are so good.

I don't think it's really JL that most people have the problem with, he is a RS fresman. Most people have a problem with the way Les has handled the QB situation. Most would have liked to have seen more JJ is all....

Stafford will likely be a top draft pick this year. He has loads of talent around him this year similar to JR. Compare a top talent NFL prospect to another and tell me in their 3 year tally of stats who would be a better chart for Lee to emulate. Stafford or Russell.

Stafford has an unbelievable arm. thats about it.

I just don't think stafford is that great.
just my opinion.

I guess that is any easy thing to say. You think a true-freshman is ready to play big time SEC football over a redshirt-freshman when you haven't seen him play in an SEC game.
I guess that is where our society is these days. People rather see Obama as the president when he has done nothing for his country over an old guy that has done everything for his country. On the basis that we need CHANGE.

NFL coaches see a huge arm and thats it! They think they can teach him everything else. Jake Plummer ring a freakin bell!

why do people keep comparing Lee to stafford
Satfford shown lots of improvement in his freshmen season, Lee took steps backward

RP is doing this with what 2 months in their offense before starting the season? If perrilloux was here, he would really be the toast of the town. Oh well hopefully, Lee, Jordan, Garrett, Sheperd, Randle or the hatchman will grab a hold of the job.

JJ isn't one dimensional like Lee is. Tuck and run

Based on what? You don't like UGA? Watch him play football and he is probably the best QB in the SEC since Eli Manning. Russell was pretty good, but Stafford probably better.
