One of our goals is to make life for our kids better than ours right?

One of our goals is to make life for our kids better than ours right? I've wiped my arse with a page from a JC Penny's catalog in an outdoor toilet in below 0 weather. My kids have never done that. Are we better for that?

Being obsessed with kids being bare-assed, and wiping up shite is not good for anyone.

I strangled a prostitute with a steel guitar string back in 98. Threw her body in the woods and never heard about it again.
My kids will never get to experience that level of freedom.

I was abused and don't abuse my children, but intentionally make their lives a little difficult because resistance is necessary for growth.

Craig James? Is that you?

In this scenario the kids are definitely better off. Parents that give a crap always want their children to have a better life compared to what they grew up with. It doesn’t matter if a child grew up listening to the radio for entertainment vs a kid in today’s world with a iPhone always on hand.

At some point you should make it a little harder. If you don’t we keep getting softer.

You can hardly go wrong if you teach your children good character traits and values. Integrity and responsibility can carry you far in life.

Solid question.
In my opinion, children need “forced adversity”, whether it’s in contact sports, manual labor, volunteering for those less fortunate, etc.
My children will have stuff I dreamed of (pool/pool house/boat/etc), and I’ll make it a point purposely make their lives harder to build character.
I want to teach my children two things: kindness and confidence. If you have those two things, you can do anything you want in life.

It's probably not great their Daddy is asking for parenting advice on the internets.

I got lost in the swamp when I was a kid. Learned Never Eat Slimy Worms after that. Some kids today are more lost than I was that day. They just need direction.

Are we? Depends on how you choose to look at it internally. If you choose to see it as if you’ve given your child a better life than you had, then hopefully, you’re “better” as you have leveled-up your kids life.
Now, is your child better off? I’d have to say, unequivocally, they are better off. Teach them the values you want them to live by in order to be a good person, and hopefully they become just that.
They can still have moments in life that teach them things that doesn’t have to be wiping their arse with a magazine page in below freezing temperatures.
IMO…too many parents now are soft on their kids and want their kids to like them 100% of the time. Therefore, they rarely discipline, set boundaries, and say “no” when needed. This does nothing to help the child grow into a functioning adult, nor does it help the parent-child relationship.

Not so sure about that.
I think it's more our job to try to create a better path and more opportunities but teach them they they have a vital role to play. I'm not so sure it's a parents role to create or make life better for the kids but allow for them to take advantage of more opportunities to create a better life on their own.

If you hate your kids, give them everything they want. Will guarantee them to be shitty people with a disappointing life.

I’ve used a dry magnolia leaf in the woods.

Hmm, what else could you do with pages of the JC Penney’s catalog?
