I know we had one try in the last year or so but he did not get much into NC if I remember correctly.

I only wish I had known about it when I finished school. Would have been the perfect time.

This.
It would be nice to do it one day, but section hiking with my boys is probably a better alternative.

Yep. Next chance I'll get is after I retire.

Mine will be at retirement also if ever.
I even lived in Atlanta for my first job but I was to busy chasing tang in Buckhead.

I'm hoping to hike the GA segments in the next few years. Trying to add them on my to do list

I hiked the AT in 2013 and the PCT in 2017. I'll be doing the CDT this year. Start date is 24th of March, heading NOBO. I am so excited!

This is my retirement hike. Hopefully while it's still a little wild.

Come on Alx, it didn't exist way back then...

Thats awesome TigerHead
You going to Youtube it like the younger generation or use Trailjournals?
I think I have read that the CDT is less defined trailwise than the AT or PCT. Also how bad was the desert portion and then the snow when you did PCT?

Yep, you need skills for the CDT.

congrats brother
my good friend did the AT solo in 2017 and hiked the PCT last year with his wife. They stopped at the OR/WA border MM 2144, approx. 500 miles short.
I've always wanted to kayak the MS River from MN to the GOM. Not sure I'll ever do it but it's a desire

Going to respectfully argue against it being the perfect time. I did it 13 years into my career and I don't think it could have come at a more perfect time (both for career reasons and personal reasons).
I have shared this before, but it really makes you realize how the simpler life is a much more enjoyable life. It ends up being 6 months of practicing needs vs wants and has been a life change for me. I think having worked for those years before hiking really made it hit home how much I took for granted and just how easy it is to get in a "rut".

My brother in law completed the PCT a couple years ago, prior to him talking about it leading up I'd never really heard about thru-hiking.
It's something I wished I'd known about when younger, and at this point my career and family life wouldn't make it a doable thing until much later down the road.
I'm fascinated by it though, the simplicity of living, the toughness to complete, I have respect and envy for anyone that can do it.

For the past few years, I pick out a few YouTubers who are going to attempt the AT and follow them. I haven’t really found anyone this year that interests me yet but I’m still looking. Last year, I watched Jay Wanders Out and The Heard Hiker and a couple of others who quit along the way.
Watching PCT attempts has gotten frustrating because of the fire closures that seem to happen every year now multiple times.
I can’t imagine ever getting to do a thru hike but a good section hike sounds doable.

I watched his stuff last year. I tried to watch a PCT hiker named Sunshine also but ended up getting bored with it. The PCT is spectacular but water and towns feel few and far between at times.
Trying to figure out who to watch this year myself. Some people do a really good job on trail journals and its fun to keep up with but others write it so generic that its boring very quickly
