I bet the CEO could take a 5% pay cut that will save a ton of money for the company.

Nah. Myself and everyone else I work with directly hates it. Same thing, just an added task for us.
I’m upper management (albeit not upper enough to yay/nay the use of the service) and I tell folks to pencil whip Salesforce just to stay off the radar. Unless the team is completely bought in and uses it how it’s supposed to be used, it’s little more than a time waster.

I must be in the minority because I think Salesforce sucks. Management jumped on the hoorah bandwagon a few years ago with it and now it is just an added task in my field.
Pain in the arse.
Their software was terrible to try to manage a while back. Not sure if that has changed or not. Got away from it.

That's our problem. It's misapplied.

We use it for CRM and knowledge base tooling. I don’t hate it but it’s not the best either.

I won’t act like CRM’s don’t have some benefit. But let’s be honest, the vast majority of companies use them to micro-manage their sales people.

It is great as a CRM in my opinion, which is what it was originally designed to do. But all sorts of companies try to make it do things it was never designed or intended to do.
My company is in this boat. Then we upgraded to the “lightening experience” which killed the already terrible performance. The pages come up as if I’m on a dial up modem.

My old company 'implemented' this. Two years later and they are still trying to figure it out.
I know several SalesForce developers and the biggest issue I have discussed with them within SMB, Mid-Market, and Enterprise level companies is that companies at all levels hire people that don’t know what they’re doing. You need teams of certified admins, SalesForce developers to build highly customizable solutions who are given feedback by sales people to improve and automate daily workflows. Moreover, you need Solutions Architects to communicate and plan effective governance, therefore, helps enterprises adopt, manage, and maintain new capabilities and business models especially those brought to the table by Salesforce, in order for an effective implementation to occur.

I'm pretty sure that mine just uses it to catalog our customer's contacts so they can (at least in their mind) use a remotely located idiot instead of an actual salesmen to call on customers

I bet they'll be just fine with 10% less staff
It might not be good for unemployment numbers, but if most companies did a true value assessment of their employees most would be able to run more efficient with at least 10% less staff.

Luckily I don’t work for a company that asks for call reports. I have in the past though and frick those companies.

They’ve always been bloated and over staffed. Probably needs to be closer to 20%.

Can someone explain to an outsider what Salesforce actually does or can provide? (Like I'm 5 please).

It’s a great company and the ceo is highly respected. He’s underpaid imo for a company this size
I worked for a silicon valley based company that was always rated as one of the best places to work. Most of these surveys are given out by HR to people they know are going to give positive reviews. As a field engineer, I was not one of those people. The truth was the company was cutthroat, culture is nothing more than empty words from HR, and perhaps the worst when it came to work-life balance. Just like Salesforce, they operate at a loss.
