re: Do you think Daniels has hit his ceiling production wise?

It depends. If it’s a physical limitation, then probably not. If it’s a mental limitation, then absolutely he can.

I do think he’ll have a better year just by virtue of him being in his 2nd year with this team and the all-new-for-2022 OL will be more experienced.
That said, to your point, the YPA has declined 0.4 yards with each passing season. That does give me some concern that he hasn’t progressed. That and he throws an ugly ball.

When has he improved?
He's actually regressed over his 4 years.
And he hasn't been consistent over the season. Some of his worst games have been recent.
I don't get the worship of him.

2/4 years (2/3 years where he played a full schedule) he had 2770 and 2900 yards passing.
When I look at ceilings you are literally asking what’s the best this guy can do. Not “what is he going to do”
And look at Kenny Pickett dude averaged 204 yards a game and like 12 TDS a season for 4 seasons ad Pitt before having a 4319 yard 42 TD season in 2021. And that’s with the same team and 3 years with the same OC.
And he was another guy who would have a big game here and there but was never consistent until he was

I'm saying his history as a passer has shown that he hasn't improved. Which is the truth. He has stayed the same since his freshman year.
You also have to consider the system he was in and coaching (or lack of) he may have been receiving. If he was in the same system with the same coaching fir 4 years, I’d say the odds of improving were slim to none, but he will be in year two of new coaching. It’s possible he could improve drastically.

How old is Daniels? 21? Going into his second year in a system?
Anyone who says yes is a moron.

He can improve if he is willing to throw more picks downfield. He will see longer completions and more touchdowns. Also he has to LOOK downfield when scrambling, he only looks for running lanes now after his first option.

Anyone that thinks the guy can't improve in Year 2 of this system with nearly the entire offense returning is a bona fide imbecile.
This.

I know that’s the thinking here, but I don’t think that’s it. There were wide open receivers all year that he just didn’t see and/or didn’t allow time for the routes to develop.

I agree with that and that was my biggest gripe about him. Watch film on him. There are guys running wide open that he's unwilling to get the ball to. Either that or he's not even looking at them.

Yeah, but that’s not too scared to throw a pick, there’s no defender around. That happened way too often. He just doesn’t look at all of his options.

Why does Jayden not eat donuts?
Cause if he eats 1, he eats the whole dozen. He can't pass on the other 11.

I think we can all agree if JD kept his eyes downfield when scrambling, he and the WRs would have better stats. He just seems to have a run first mentality that doesn't sit well with everyone.
Bottom line, he has to improve his passing game because SECW and FSU already knows what his game is like. If his game remains the same, they will load the box and force him to throw.

Nope.
He can play at an elite level, its all about his confidence at any given time.

I think he can improve a good bit next year.
QBs don't "hit their peak" in college, they do it sometime around their mid-30's. At that point they STILL keep learning and improving the mental part, but their physical skills start to slide.
I will list a couple fairly simple reasons I think he will get better:
1) Familiarity with system. He might be a 4th yr Jr, but he was in his first yr of Denbrock's system. Concepts, language, routes etc, he will know that better next year.
2) Familiarity with players. Nabers and the rest of the WRs will be back, Taylor will be back, and Williams and the other RBs will be back. He got comfortable with Nabers and Taylor this season, will be more aware of them next year; and that will apply to the others too. He will "know" their routes and where they like the ball a lot better next year, than he did coming into this year.
*we see this all the time with guys off the bench, they have a better connection with other backups usually, because they've practiced more with them. Same principle will apply to Daniels with the returning starters. He didn't have a connection to anyone coming into this year.
Note, this would apply to Nuss, Howard and the rest of the team too. Everyone returning should take a step up. I'd assume Howard would make the biggest step, since he's also now used to "college" too.
I'll add this in, too:
Boutte leaving might actually help the overall offense. He's a great talent, and had he returned, I'm pretty confident they'd try to make him the #1 option at WR.
For whatever reason, that didn't work this year. In the Fla State and other early games, Daniels hit him a lot, and he dropped a bunch. Couple TDs against FSU, there were easy drops later too.
Daniels trusts Nabers, he didn't drop passes (just punts). With Boutte, Nabers is still probably #2, meaning your QB isn't looking for either a) the guy the play is designed for (Boutte), or b) the guy he's most comfortable throwing to (Nabers). With Boutte gone, Nabers is the clear #1, which should mean a lot more first-read throws and less hesitancy.

What JD5 did at Az State is basically irrelevant. He was poorly coached and had weak talent around him. That is no longer true.
Did he improve or decline last season?
He had the best receivers who played/practiced for a full season, better coaching for a season. Was his play vs Arkansas, T A&M and Georgia indicative of your statement?

Mid 30?s only a few elite QBs are getting better at that point or even maintaining how good they were.

Not even close
If JD works his arse off to work on his processing and release speed this offseason, which he absolutely can, he could do so much more. A ton more. He has a huge ceiling

This is not the NFL. Daniels has in the best case, not improved.
