What is wrong with Bayou Bengal Fans?

I am an LSU Alum and have been following LSU sports for a long time and the loathing, distasteful, and obnoxious behavior I have been witnessing is quite disturbing. It has reach a point that it has made many national sports television programs and internet sites. I realize some of the words being written and spoken are made in jest, but there are just as many, if not more that are worse. The public behavior of the LSU fan is at an all time low. Why do fans have to throw insults or objects at the opposing team or during a nationally televised sports program, much less post a private telephone number? Is this the kind of image we want to portray? I would hope not, because it not only reflects badly on LSU, but the State of Louisiana.
To those that are so unhappy and disgruntled with the LSU football season - Did you really think the Fighting Tigers were going to go back to a National Championship game? You were sadly mistaken and delusional to believe that. We have young and inexperienced quarterbacks with little or no playing time in a college football game, much less an SEC football game. The loss of veterans in the secondary and in general on the team does have an effect. The young men that are there now are trying to lead and play to the best of their ability. If you read the news articles the team is taking ownership for their mistakes and are practicing to correct them. It also does not help their confidence and passion for the game when the "loyal Tiger fans" boo and walk out during a game. I know that this is part of the "mystic" of LSU games, but is it necessary at this level. Yes, this has been a disappointing few weeks, but our team needs support to complete the season on a positive note.
To those who have supported the Tigers not matter what, I applaud you. I hope you join me and continue that support for our Tigers and University.
I would love to be in my home state and in Death Valley on Saturday to watch the Tigers play. I watch the games that are televised and catch up on the others using the internet. I envy those of you that are able to attend games and then I read and see the things I have this season and realize my long distance support is more worthwhile. You may call me whatever name or use your favorite jester, but I will and have supported LSU in good times and bad. I have been there during the bad and watch not only the football team rise up and prove themselves, but our University.
Remember this is a college football game and these young men, coaches, and staff will always play and coach these games because of their love and passion for the game and the University.
I do hope that all true Tiger fans do truly bleed Purple and Gold.
As always,

Excellent post, but those same fans will come on here and say to you that their actions will not effect the team or recruiting. They are to caught up in there own world to think of image and perception, that is what helps bring a recruit to a school. I've lurked on other boards before, a have seen some meltdowns but this is pathetic, from adults and the students it will start to hurt our program.

Trust me.. I understand. In 06' when we were playing Miss. St. all the fans were booing and there was a little chant that got started "Fire Shula" I didnt like it at all and it showed little respect..

yeah, cause everybody knows what we do is worse than Georgia fans holding up signs that said "Katrina can't buy you an SEC championship" while our players walked in during the 05 SEC championship

Well, mediocre is about right.. if the "we" you speak of is the fans....
But when the booing started during the Tulane game is when I think "we" (and I am talking about the the FANS, "we") started looking much worse than mediocre!

I have also been to other boards and the posts are very telling. Thank goodness some of the kids coming out of high school realize that these "adults" do not represent the best of LSU. When they do come for the "visit" they actually see what LSU is about and are armed with information that they are able to use to make a life changing decision.
I also hope this behavior has not hurt recruiting in sports, but in academics. But alas, my friend I believe that has may have already happened.
I always wonder how these people actually behave in the professional arena and if they are as rabid about their performance there.
Just a thought.

great post!!
Your are the type of LSU fan people told me about. The one who gives the rest a bad name. Sorry I dont have the video of you booing your guys last week against Tulane!!
For the taking out of context, didnt know that was how it all went down, but you completely show your true colors with your response.

Just trying to express something that has been bothering me for a very long time. I am glad to see other true fans out there that agree.

Great post! I hate the booing and bitching by everyone, I believe in being a Tiger Fan through thick and thin. It's just bad sportsmanship to boo, much less for your own team.

I'm pretty sure they were chanting "Bring On Saban".

Considering the one who posted the video was from La and was sitting in the student section Im pretty sure it was "We want Saban". But again, this was just something that LSU fans did "last year". Every team has fans that do that so... nothing personal. Good luck and hope both teams come out injury free.
