IMO, that's true but not the same as asking if our staff is going to take an offensive style that gives us the best chance to win? Not the same.
Not once in his coaching career has CBK had the WR talent we have. Much like Saban circa 2013, CBK needs to take advantage of our advantage.

This. You have to live with some arm punts from a guy like Nuss because there are going to be a lot more huge completions.

I don't see how anyone could have an issue with this. If nothing else, it will increase competition tremendously, making everyone better.

What a day… we get JD5 back and Jordan Jefferson gives us more qb depth. Honestly didn’t know he had any more eligibility.

Y’all are all up in arms about him throwing for over 200 yards in a half when Jayden did the same team in the same game.
nuss threw for 300 and jd5 was not consistent throwing all year. his intermediate numbers were trash coming from ASU and we showed you. most his stuff was short stuff. hell i think his deep ball rate was worse here than at ASU.
quick question a YES or NO will do.
is JD5 a better downfield passer YES OR NO?
so you feel jayden is a better reader of defenses and has a better downfield ability?
CRICKETS!

I just went back and revisited the Nussmeier garbage from last season...
for those who forget, LSU planned on redshirting Nussmeier last year.
Then Dad threw a hissyfit that his son didn't get into the game against Alabama, which became public on Twitter. Called the OC Peetz, and presumably Orgeron.
My guess is that Kelly isn't going to play that game. He didn't take the LSU job to let it be run by outsiders.

Garrett Nussmeier has already played in 3 games. The thought was he would hold on to the redshirt.
Instead, Orgeron said Nussmeier was upset he didn't get in vs. Alabama.
His dad (Cowboys QB coach Doug Nussmeier) called LSU OC Jake Peetz on Sunday. The plan is to now play him.

The previous plan, as Orgeron stated a week ago, was the Nussmeier camp wanted to keep the redshirt on him. Which is why he didn't play vs. Alabama.
Now, Nussmeier's shifting course on the idea. He wants to be able to have the chance to play across the final 3 games.

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is not expected to play in the Texas Bowl on Tuesday, according to a report Monday from The Athletic.
Nussmeier, a freshman, is the Tigers' only quarterback on scholarship but is one appearance away from losing his redshirt eligibility — playing in four games this season. LSU submitted a waiver to the NCAA requesting if he could play without sacrificing his status but, according to The Athletic, the appeal was denied.
The Athletic is also reporting that it was Nussmeier's decision not to burn his eligibility for the game.
My guess is that Kelly isn't going to play that game. He didn't take the LSU job to let it be run by outsiders.

the whole problem is these posters are like democrats running purely on emotions and cherry picking stats without context. nobody wanted to adress his issues the the intermediate and deep game.nobody can answer the questions posed with context because nobody here wants an honest conversation. we are severely limited without a consistent downfield passing game. we saw how teams adjusted to stop and limit jd5. anybody thinking he will turn into this great downfield passer overnight is some huge wishcasting based on prior evidence. he has had 4 years playing. he looks the same as always. they cry out OMG we cannot have nuss or whoever throwing picks!
here is 4 Qb's who threw picks and threw downfield and all 4 won at least a sec west title with 3 winning an SEC title and 2 winning a natty!
1) JR
2) Davey
3) mauck
4) flynn
and sure jd5 won the west also but he has to change to reach higher goals. can he? it seemed he regressed during the season and went back to old bad habits. he is nowhere near the passer the 4 above were. this whole BS about we cannot throw picks so we need jd5 is absolute horseshite and totally limits us because it hampers our downfield ability because he makes poor reads and holds ball way too long.
this does not even factor in all these WR studs we have who will need a gunslinger or they will bail!

I agree with this, but to take this team to the next level as the starter, he will need to become way better at reading the whole defense pre and post snap, throwing on time, quicker decision making which goes back to being able to read pre and post snap, find the fortitude to throw into tight windows and have way better accuracy on intermediate and deep balls.

well.........there were times this year when he should have put in nuss when jd5 struggled mightily. he did not. why not? actually we shoulda been platooning all year spurrier style. CBK had justification to sit jd5 many many times. stubborness almost miles like rode his arse results be damned.
it will all be exposed this spring that is for sure. we are about to find out the truth of wtf happened. no more bs agendas and narratives. we saw what nuss did in seccg. imagine had they split reps all year. we will also see if jd5 can prove he is head and shoulders better than nuss and howard. get your popcorn ready.

If Nuss beats out Daniels in the spring, it’s going to be a very weird summer.

Last week I started to type up a detailed response, full of context and backed up by statistics, to all of the “43 sacks!!1!” posts. That response would have detailed how, for the vast majority of Daniels’ sacks, they were situations where he was trying to escape the pocket and create a positive play where he did not believe there was one available within the route concept.
This would have been supported by the fact that despite giving up the most sacks in the SEC, LSU gave up the least yardage per sack in the SEC. A sack for -1 yard is not the same as a sack for -7 yards.
It matters, contextually, because there were many times when Daniels was able to escape the rush and gain significant yardage in key situations. In fact we gained yardage during sacks/scrambles on average - the 2nd highest gain per sack/scramble in the SEC.
This would have been further supported, contextually, by the fact that incomplete passes don’t gain anything. So if you look at total yardage per sack, scramble, or incompletion LSU also had the second highest average gain in the SEC.
I haven’t bothered to really spell this out, until now, because it’s painfully obvious that those who have their minds made up about Daniels’ inability to lead our offense to success simply won’t hear it. So sure, context matters. But let’s not act like that’s a one-way street.

If you watched the first half against UGA and thought he looked like the same QB as he did week 1, I don’t know what to tell you.
quote:
he makes poor reads and holds ball way too long
All this talk about how “he can’t see the field” and “he’s not going to get better after 4 years” is leaving out another pretty important piece of context. He hasn’t been playing in this offense for 4 years. A ton of the reads you’re talking about happen pre-snap. It’s completely reasonable to expect pre-snap reads to improve in year 2 of the same overall offensive scheme.
None of this means I’m sold that he’s the best QB on our roster for 2023. But I’d rather have him available next year than not. If Nuss or Howard separate themselves this spring, that’s great. If not, then we should probably be glad he stayed (and spare me the “rigged competition” line.. Kelly isn’t keeping the guy he thinks is best on the bench out of loyalty to Daniels).

He can run, but he doesn’t play quarterback very well. I may be proven wrong, but I don’t think so.
Here’s a stat: 0.
You will have zero converts with your essay.

This is the Rant. The backup QB who has shown very minimal is the most popular player on the field every single season outside of 2019.
If I could go back to 2018, I would bet my life long posting privileges that half of this board was dying to replace Burrow with Brennan. Same with Mettenberger.
I can’t wrap my head around peoples mindset that believe that Daniels is plateaued and will not improve with experience and more time with these coaches and system. 95% of college QBs in the history of the game has taken a step forward past their first season.
Spare me the argument about Daniels at Arizona St.
1st year - FANTASTIC
2nd year - COVID
3rd year - Lost entire OL, WR corps. Terrible HC and OC situation and still completed 65% of his passes.
4th year - 1st year HC and OC and new school.
His 5th year will be the first year of his career where there isn’t an interruption/change between seasons that would hinder his development.

If Nuss or Howard don't have the chest to compete then we don't need them. Good riddance.

JD5 most likely will take a huge step forward though. Look at the difference year one to year 2 made for Burrows in the SEC. Good chance the same thing happens for Daniel's. Also very similar in the way the offensive lines were for Boroughs in Year One and Daniel's in Year One. In year two both had drastically better olines.

Brenner's head was checked out of football before jd5 even got here.
